I highly recommend this show. It's not a blockbuster hit or anything like that, but highly relatable, and tugs at the emotions. Like All is Well, this is a family drama, and for those of us who are not living in China, I've learnt so much about Chinese modern society and culture from this show. It really brings out how family, duty and obligations and love are can be so complex and overwhelming in a Chinesse society. Family obligations weigh very heavily on every Chinese person's mind.
All the parents acted well in this show. Of course, there are unrealisstic elements in the show - such as all the coincidences of being neighbours, ML boarding a flight that FL lead is flying etc. However, beyond these, the feelings, conflicts etc are reflective of life. Lan Qiaoqiao is probably one of the most disliked characters in the show, but even then, the perspective of a villager trying to eke a living in a big city, starting from scratch and without residence permit etc is well articulated. The most unrealistic relationship in the show to me is that of the ML's parents, reconciling after 30 years of misunderstanding.
Overall, a good slice of life show. Romance is a nice ice on the pudding. It was not love at first sight or head over heels or crazy sweet 1st love type of thing, but mature and grounded.
Unpopular opinion: Qiao concubine is so pretty and even though she's playing the low move villain in this show,…
Concubine Qiao is really pretty, has beautiful facial features, and did a great job with the acting. She reminds me of Jiang Xin who played Concubine Hua in Legend of Zhen Huan Empresses in the Palace) - even though she was the antagonist, it was widely acknowledged that her acting was brilliant.
