An underwhelming and forgettable watch
The only reason i finished this drama was because i got hooked in the beginning and started looking forward to the new episodes being dropped. And i kept hoping against all odds that it would get better, but it didn't.
Although i didn't like a lot of things about it, my biggest problem with this drama is the chemistry between the leads. It's practically non-existent. What do they even talk about? What do they like about each other? What flaws do the characters or their relationship has that gives it some substance? They fall in love because they are the main leads. They are both saintly and perfect. All their decisions are exceedingly selfless and conveniently perfect.
Also, the story was so bland and predictable. There were no stakes! You can predict the entire plot from the first couple of episodes. Also, please spare me from the overused chaebol power struggle plot line. Yeoris grandma being the chairwoman could've been so much more. Its always the patriarch in these kind of positions, but alas, the show didn't do anything with that. Not to mention, all the antagonists of this show are painfully boring and aimless. Their motives are so weak. Min hwans character is so flimsy. His backstory is so bare. Why does he hate his brother enough to let him die? Sure, he has all these pent up feelings of feeling ostracised. But why take it out on your brother? Who apparently you love and take care of? And yeoris aunt and cousins are just...what do i even say about them? They are just bland caricatures. There is never any real threat of harm to the main characters for you to worry about them, nor any real challenge for you to root for them.
This entire drama left me feeling very very meh. It wasn't even bad enough for me to hate it. I just feel, disappointed. But at least I'll forget about it in an hour. Just my 2 cents.
