Quick question for Korean language gurus... Does the guy who plays the cop (Character name: Seo Hae Ahn) speak in a dialect? His Korean sounds much different than that spoken by the others...
I'm still a little early in the show and there's one thing that's not fully clear yet... Is Su Rong Qing the Princess' cousin, i.e., are her mother and SRQ's dad siblings (of the Shang guan family)? When they interact they seem to act like unrelated nobles but not as cousins and up until ep 8, there is no mention of it.. Please share your thoughts.

Thank you! @MissCristina45 @TaliaToo If the Princess had already roped SYR into Cheng Wang's master plan, that makes sense, being a Fu Ma (without power) was just a stop gap... he might still have been Fu Ma, but granted more leeway in what he could do - or so he may have assumed.
About how he gained recognition... was that really due to the Princess? No one knew (or was supposed to be in the know) that he was the Princess' lover. I remember the gossip about no one showing up to his party, but not what finally gave him the recognition... I thought he claimed it was hard work and because XFF aided him along the way with her wisdom (drawn from how her dad was a for-the-people minister). Wanning may have contributed to him being Minister of Education - can't recall if that was explicit..
In any case, I think the character SYR was super complex, had the greatest scope for acting and calls to be analyzed! In fact, that is probably the highlight of this show - no one is painted as black or white and they take us along this joyride of where they decide to draw the line! @TaliaToo The flute had its magic, but it did lose to the fan (or the fan-wielder)!
A lot of knowledgeable people on this comment section - so I'm going to ask about something I didn't fully understand.

He falls under the Royal Princess' radar and is 'tempted/corrupted' by... sorry, colludes with her. He seemed to go between many emotions: - about XFF - from guilt/remorse to having an evil glint in his eyes brought by committing a murder (having power over someone) to fear of getting caught to jealousy when XH steps in and she connects with him..... - about Wanning - from submitting himself to feeling disgust to wanting to gain an upper hand to sometimes showing what could be, interest, in her.....
He could have thought it was a good idea to be with Wanning because it might be exciting to be part of the Royal family (given how he feels about his life situation), and her threat was just the right trigger. But, here's what I don't get - being a Fu ma ( a Princess consort), isn't he basically powerless? The princess consort almost always cannot participate in court affairs or have any powerful responsibility. And the backstory that we were shown about his father - didn't it basically show us he wanted to be an upright official who went after corrupt administrators?
Please share your thoughts on why you think he colluded with the Princess? Is it the Princess' threat to kill his family (and so he was 'forced') or is it about becoming a 'Royal' and attaining a status or could it be something else?
Started watching '墨雨云间 The Double' and he's played his character well. Just that every time he's on close-up, he reminds me of a few other actors... his expression, like some have said, resemble Zhu Yi Long's... but the way he sets his lips in serious scenes (which is almost all the time in this show), is very similar to Zhang Bin Bin's (not how it looks, but the way he sets it or it could be the hair style pulling at his features..). Anyone else thinks so?
Is it just me or does the cast look tired/ less enthusiastic or show forced enthusiasm? The new format of the last part of each episode bleeding into the next episode.. seems to make each episode a little incomplete...

Some species allow amputation or self-amputation of their body parts as a defense mechanism. Lizards escape by either dropping their tails voluntarily (called autotomy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autotomy) or when they get attacked by sufficient force, their tails get cut off, but they still survive. In that scene, when Shu'er thought she'd lost all hope, seeing the lizard (and what she considered betrayal from everyone around her - her dad, aunt and ofc, Shen Jie), she figured out that she would sever ties with her family (cut off what she considered her tail) in order to survive. Is anyone else reminded of Liang Jie (FL in 'The Eternal Love'/ 'You are my destiny') when hearing/watching Li Landy (this show's FL)? May be the two actresses have similar voices... Baidu says they dubbed themselves (in this show and Liang Jie's shows I mentioned).
谢 奶奶 Grandma Xie is so adorable... Always thought Niu Jun Feng could easily play Tu Song Yan's son or younger brother (the older actor looks so much like a mature version of the younger one to me)... watching them both in the show (though they are unrelated) is so much fun! Still in the early episodes, and enjoying the slow pace and breathtaking locales!
