This drama is high-key underrated because what are these ratings??? Kang Tae Oh and Sejong’s chemistry is off the charts and their fated romance is full of natural intimacy, longing, and growth. Jin Goo starts as a typical historical villain but his backstory hits different. Hong Suzu disconnects at times, but the grand prince, cinematography, and OST carry it all. The production team understood the assignment !
Don’t sleep on this one and don’t trust the MDL scores
Edit: the rating was 7.8 when I wrote this. It has deservedly increased since then.
This drama had all the right ingredients, but once everything was mixed together, the flavors just didn’t match. The pacing really fell apart after his escape failed. Then it randomly entered a Squid Game era that served absolutely no higher purpose and it was honestly a terrible decision. After that, the plot holes started stacking up and it kind of ruined the story. That said, the cast still ate. D.O., Ji Chang Wook, and the side characters carried hard and helped make the whole thing easier to digest
The detective played by Lee El made zero sense. The writers really fumbled her character. Personally, if I were guaranteed a promotion and then someone new, inexperienced, and seemingly unsuitable swooped in and took it, I’d be upset and challenge it, but she just decided to follow him, even telling off her loyal colleagues for questioning the status quo. Fair enough, she’s the bigger person. Or so it seems, because when it suits her, she’ll bypass the hierarchy, act without consultation, go against orders, and end up jeopardising the investigation.
What frustrates me most is that she never truly takes accountability for her reckless actions. She criticises her superiors for poor teamwork, yet behaves in the same way herself. And honestly, superiors aren’t obliged to share top-secret intelligence anyway. I’m just so disappointed with the direction they took her character because she had the potential to be a wholesome, complex, strong female lead like Queen Mantis played by Queen Go Hyun Jung, who’s basically carrying the entire drama on her back.
Sure, let's kill the one with charm, brains and balance. Rest in peace Bulldozer, gone too soon, taken by the cruel hands of bad writing. A standing ovation to the writers for trading logic for shock value and screening it as a plot twist.
WHILE MAIN PART REVEALED I WAS BLAMING JIN SEOK.THEN I WAS BLAMING ACCIDENT(IT MAJORLY WAS THE CAUSE) .BUT AFTER…
I thoroughly disagree. Even if the accident hadn’t happened, the father’s nature suggests he could still have become a villain. He took advantage of a grieving, mentally unstable man who had recently experienced a traumatic accident and lost his family; someone vulnerable, desperate, and powerless. As a doctor, he chose to see his wife’s life as expendable, valuing his own existence above hers, even though he was responsible for his own financial situation. In doing so, he broke his Hippocratic oath and has demonstrated that he is a morally bankrupt hypocrite and misogynist who preys on the vulnerable.
Beautiful couple, bad writing (terrible character development and establishment of timeline) and directing. Don’t be misled by the trailer… this is not a romcom. Movie is choppy, as if it’s missing scenes…
Can’t blame the actors for a weak production team.
The trailer was misleading. Parodies were fun at times but it’s still a boring movie overall… very weak. Nonetheless Yaya is beautiful and a great actress (as usual).
The cinematography is incredibly soft on the eyes and the past/present is beautifully blended. It’s truly a work of art. BUT why are we romanticising cheating? ML really did 2FL dirty and dragged FL into his immorality. The 2FL seems to be understanding towards FL because of the circumstances but in the end FL became the other woman because they (ML/FL) were cheating. This ruins such a beautifully written, directed and acted love story.
The police officer keeps saying that in a country of law individuals have no right to take revenge but the first thing he does when he sees Kurosagi is punch him. Hypocrisy at its finest.
I went in blind and the violence was shockingly excessive. Or perhaps I’m not desensitised enough. Nonetheless, Ethan did a fantastic job (sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly) expressing the complexity of human character and it’s areas of black, white and everything in between. I was pleasantly surprised.
I missed the part where a 200 year old cynical devil with a superiority complex fell deeply in love with a helpless human (to the point where he says “I can’t live without her” - words also said by every f boi). All of this happened in 1 month. The writers haven’t made it clear. At least Do Do Hee has a reason - him being her (handsome) saviour.
It’s all shallow and superficial.
I wanted something deeper but I will settle for the eye candy and beautiful shots. I can be shallow and superficial too.
Nam Joo Hyuk wasn’t intense enough. You can feel someone who genuinely believes he is a righteous killer and someone who is as angry at the world. His eyes and body language fell flat.

Even his voice fell flat imo
