Mmhh ... then Sam is like Xiao Bai? XD
hahaha yes Sam is like Xiao Bai, stuck between them both and rolling his eyes at how oblivious to their feelings both of them are xD

I just realized something: JYL and CYZ resemble Dean and Cas from my other favorite show Supernatural. Like Dean, JYL is rough around the edges but actually cares a lot, has a tragic family backstory, and sacrificed a lot to save the world. Like Cas, CYZ is always willing to help his JYL, believes in him and has a softer personality. Maybe this is why I fell in love with their dynamic haha

Other than Supernatural finale, this was one of the few drama series that made me cry a river because of that…
Yes same, JYL and CYZ deserved that sweet ending version.

Yeah I stopped watching SPN at episode 19. Saw the spoilers for the finale, got upset and didn't watch the final episode. I will take episode 19 as the ending with the hope that Jack brings back Cas afterwards.

Yes I completely agree with you. I have accepted both endings to be honest. I understand why the sad ending was filmed originally. Also it was impactful in its own way.
Lol yes, poor MZJ because he had to cry every other episode (his eyes must be tired by the end). Also, poor IanYi. He was getting beaten up and abused every other episode as well haha XD

Yes! I wish they could have filmed that beautiful alternative ending too. But I understand how it is the way it is... When they filmed KAH (2018) the Chinese censorship was quite strict. Plus, KAH probably had a harder time because it is a republican era drama and based on Chinese police. Because of all that, they had to film the ending the way they did in 2018. Even now I heard that Mango wasn't letting them change the ending (the team had to post the alternative ending on their weibo before Mango even put a separate video about it...). I think if KAH was filmed nowadays with the lax censorship, they could have gotten away with filming a happy ending but still I am glad they edited and released it now.

Yes, I agree with you. Poor JYL. Btw please do check out the alternative ending written by the scriptwriter if you haven't yet (see Taotilychee's post in discussions). I think the alternative ending edit is as close as they could come to it given the footage they had.

Also, you mentioned the Supernatural finale. Don't get me started there. I am still upset about it. I didn't watch the final episode after finding out the way Dean died and how he doesn't even meet Cas in heaven.... Like why? :/

Oh wow, a lot of people seem to adore this drama. I started the first episode but then I dropped it. It is not…
Yes, I highly recommend it. I haven't been able to get over this drama since I watched it. The main leads have amazing chemistry together and the entire cast did a great job imo. The story picks up in a couple of episodes and the MLs bond grows stronger over time so I would suggest to continue watching :)
On Well-Intended Love Season 2 May 6, 2021
I haven't seen season 1 but people said season 2 was a less creepy version of season 1 so I watched it. The lead couple's relationship was still creepy here so I can't imagine how much worse S1 story must be... I only continued watching because of Chu Yan and skipped the lead couple's scenes.

I have been reflecting about the ending (spoiler below):
After much reflection, I understand why the filmed ending was sad. With the republican era, it is expected to be sad since that was a turbulent era. Chinese censorship would not allow happy ending for that time. KAH probably had a bigger hurdle with censorship because it also had a male CP (in 2018 when it was filmed, Chinese censorship was stricter). I also heard that if a certain government department is involved (e.g. police here) then they also review the drama. KAH probably faced that since JYL was a police officer. Next, the drama apparently faced time/budget constraints which explains the rushed sad ending. After all these factors, I think the filmed ending being sad makes sense.
I am glad the original scriptwriter wrote a happy alternate ending for us now and the team tried to edit as much of it as they could with what footage they had (see Taotilychee's post above in discussions). I think if the drama was filmed now when censorship is a bit more relaxed in China, maybe they could have even filmed it. So I am grateful in the end and appreciate their efforts.

Yes, I also became a fan after watching him in Killer and Healer. I haven't watched those two dramas but I checked…
You know I was thinking the same thing... I am so into his pairing with IanYi, how will it be watching him with another male lead... But then from BTS pictures of this drama, he looks quite different with the long hair and costume so maybe I wouldn't get KAH flashbacks when I watch story of bat.

I really wanted Mao Zi Jun getting the main lead after watching "Legend of the Dragon Pearl " and "Legend of Chusen"…
Yes, I also became a fan after watching him in Killer and Healer. I haven't watched those two dramas but I checked the legend of haolan after KAH. He has such a different character there (calm and rational like CYZ) compared to his role as JYL in KAH. So he has a great acting range. Eager to see the kind of character he will play in The story of the bat.

Sure, It is long but I will try to summarize xD:

So CYZ and JYL are going home to make tangyuan together (JYL's idea xD). The whole ending scene of Junbai shooting CYZ happens. JYL shoots Junbai in return and Junbai tells him they both lost (with the scene of Yu's beads falling). However it turns out that CYZ is safe because JYL made CYZ wear bulletproof vest since he knew it was going to be dangerous with Junbai. Junbai is bitter but dying and his dying wish is to be buried with Yu (Junbai buried Yu in the apricot forest).

A tender moment happens during the night after CYZ and JYL return home. Fast forward to one year later, CYZ, JYL, Keying and Xiao Bai have moved to the countryside. It is dusk outside and Keying and Xiao Bai are playing outside. In the living room, CYZ is preparing some herbs while JYL is reading the newspaper (it seems Jin was promoted to director). They are at peace and have a tender moment happen between them. It is also revealed by CYZ that he knew that JYL carved his clinic sign. CYZ and JYL watch the sun set together :) <3

Later, CYZ and JYL go to Yu's grave to pay respects. It seems that CYZ didn't honor Junbai's last wishes of being buried together with Yu and feels a bit guilty. JYL consoles him that he did right by Yu as he wouldn't have wanted it. It is revealed that Junbai is buried on top of the mountain cliff behind the apricot forest (so the Junbai's grave always overlooks Yu's grave but Yu's grave doesn't have Junbai's grave in sight T.T). CYZ and JYL decide to go home and while walking, talk about existence of next life and decide to have secret sign so that they can always recognize each other in every life. Meanwhile Junbai's spirit at the top of mountain is looking at Yu's spirit below. He asks whether Yu believes in next life. Yu's spirit is looking ahead and he sadly replies that he doesn't know. Junbai wants to be like CYZ and JYL in the next life with Yu. Yu's struggling and lost spirit wishes that he never meets Junbai in any lifetime...

YES! this is the ending that should have been filmed. It is perfect and wraps everything up nicely. Also, yes it is by the scriptwriter of the drama (who posted it on weibo) so I consider it canon and my heart was finally healed after reading it :)
