The way the synopsis is written on MDL sometimes will leave u more confused than before u read it...๐ค Anyway, I'm thinking to give this a try. Yay ๐ or nay๐??
I just finished this and liked it. Apparently, like half of the actors were in Blossom ๐.My favourite character…
ML did really well, I love his antics & how he totally threw himself into love with fl. He seemed to want to consume her because he knew he wouldn't have much time to be together. Really nice to see.
FL was okay, but I found her quite haughty and stiff. I wondered why the emperor seemed to be unable to say no to her & why the princes seemed to scrape & bow to her. Even if they wanted to win her hand in order to ally with her father's military power, it felt like they gave in to her a bit too much.
Jeremy Xu was spectacular here, IMO. It was interesting seeing a totally different dynamic between him & MZY compared with Royal Rumours. I hope China takes a cue from SK & makes 'ahjussi' led dramas led by older actors like him without being ageist & leaving the lead roles for only young 20s & 30s actors.
The ending went precisely as I had expected. No surprises there. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the OSTs, nothing grabbed my audience.
Nice watch, though I wouldn't place it anywhere near my top 10.
I just finished this and liked it. Apparently, like half of the actors were in Blossom ๐. My favourite character was Bu Shulin๐she/he was quite entertaining & pulled off the dual gender role really well. I actually prefer her as a guy.
Odd as it may sound, this is only the 2ndmodern C-Drama I have watched to the end after Glory of Special Forces. Previously, I stayed with costume dramas, & even those were only wuxia, cos I don't like xianxia. I even tried The Best Thing & The First Frost cos I really like ZLH & BJT, but I dropped them cos I.somehow wasn't feeling them..๐ซฃ๐คญ
But wow! Something about this show kept pulling me in. I hesitated before & after starting, but once I got into it by ep 3 I couldn't stop. The trauma the leads endured was so heart-wrenching! Chen Yi's father just a sadist, & Miao Jing's mom was the worst!
It was beautiful to see them lean on each other & grow together. Their love is so fresh, so pure, so touching. Love borne out of adversity is always the strongest & they proved it. I love how he was totally into her & uninterested in anyone else. I like how she never gave up on him & helped him find himself again. At some point, Miao Jing kinda irritated me with her pushy attitude, but I still understood why she was like that & thankfully our guy was always accommodating. Chen Yi is every shade of green flag! They look soooooo beautiful ๐ together, if they had children they would be the cutest!! I had only seen Song Wei Long in Youthful Glory before this, & Zhang Jin Yi in Blossoms in Adversity & Legend of Zang Hai, & she's is soo pretty, that's what made me start to watch & I'm so glad I did!๐คฉ. The OSTs are dope! Even Song Wei Long's is soo good!
I totally, totally enjoyed watching this drama. It's given me hope & inspiration to watch more modern shows, too. C-Dramas & K-Dramas have somehow made me want to change my stance on clingy, obsessive love ๐คญ๐๐. Now I kinda think it's not such a bad idea, provided it's moderate & not destructive....
โWins his heartโ means he falls for her because of who she becomes, not because sheโs chasing him or babysitting…
You put it so well. I totally understand, and I wouldn't have any issues if they hadn't previously been engaged. But as @Steph_M put it, he likely would've faced social pressures to cut ties with a 'criminal's daughter', so I get it cos that how it was back then. Don't blame me, though, I just went by what MDL wrote in the synopsis...๐คญ
Just reading the synopsis, I'm wondering why fl would want to win back the ml's heart when he abandoned her in her hour of need. I wouldn't want such a person back in my life. Makes him cowardly & pathetic, especially since she had to be a servant in his house...๐๐
