IU in WLGYT doesn't count - she portrayed 2 different, albeit related, people, across two different eras. Like others on this list, if she had a twin, a mental disorder, a clone, etc, I would let it go...
I really looked forward to watching this drama. Even though I have neither read nor watched the adaptations of Dangerous Liaisons, I instantly connected with it because sageuk is my favourite K-Drama genre. I think it takes a certain appreciation of Korean culture & history to fully understand the context of this show. For instance, one needs to understand the societal restrictions on women, & worse, on widows, and the concept of 'memorial gate' , which was often earned at the expense of many a young widow's life....
Performance-wise, I have no complaints about JCW & SYJ, they were professional as expected. All that arse-baring JCW did...🫣🙈. That nana girl was the worst thing that happened to this show! I really, really disliked her character & her acting, with the jumpiness, head down, shoulders up, & ugly pout...everything about her, her acting & her character sucked🙄👎👎
SYJ's character was too self-centered. I felt like having missed out on Jo Won in her youth, she could have kept him around & shagged him without needing to leave her married life. She just kept using him, & he just let himself be used till he faded...I don't understand how people can be that way.

The acting was good, costumes pretty, OSTs not bad, but it really, really was not as good as some say. There were just too many things up in the air & for no reason! Why was ml so suicidal? And they wanted us to believe he was such a self-sacrificing angel with absolutely no ambitions or greed for the throne?? Ridiculous! 🙄👎
I totally lost interest from ep 24, & just wanted to finish it just to be done with it 🙄. Unfortunately for me, I watched this right after watching Royal Bethrothal, another monumental flop🫣🙄👎. I need to go watch me some Zhang Ling He dramas or some of my favourite K-Dramas like Six Flying Dragons to wash the disappointment out of my eyes & mind....
Definitely not worth a rewatch, I rate it 6.5.
BTW, I totally found that Mulian Yu charming! 😁😉🤩. And is the lack of kiss scenes due to Ai Mi's age?🤨🤔
This is just about the most confused drama ever made! Started strong and then lost it so bad that I could hardly wait for it to finish🙄 CZY & WJY were supposed to be a dream couple and they each did well, as did most of the supporting cast, but the story sucked soooo badly in the second half it was hard to believe they actually thought it was good enough to the public see it!
FL's bestie was just meh, though I liked how devoted she was to their friendship. Huang Bo & Di Nian deserved better. I kinda like Liang Yong Qi in this. There were only a few funny moments, the show just doesn't seem to have any particular direction...🙄👎
Several things in the customs & flow didn't make sense, like they seemed to treat d emperor with contempt. Normally, even if pretentious, subjects would bow visibly & take a few dteps before turning to walk away from the emperor, but not here. I kept reminding myself that it's supposed to be make-belief, but it was very believable.
The OSTs were a bit of a consolation.
Don't think I'll be rewatching this, I'm rating it a 5.5
I just finished rewatching this & it still is awesome! Love, love the Liudao boys, all cute & smart & tough & decent. My favourite will always be Yu Shi San - I fell for Fang Yi Lun from here on...😁🙈. The Liu-Liu couple are a great pairing, very well-matched!

Exactly my thoughts! Like how was she able to continue without any visible signs of weakness? And no one even thought of getting her medical help but she carried on for the rest of the show with no trouble at all....🙄 That's just ridiculous & unrealistic.
