oh, please lol. america is an anomaly in how bad it is compared to other western nations, but korea is number 39 on the global peace index. im from canada, and we're at 9, despite all our major cities being drug and crime-infested. now add the bullying, insane beauty standards, pseudo-honor bs, sex crimes, and inhumane work/school culture on top of it.

just because they apologized doesn't mean a majority of japanese don't deny or downplay it. unit 731 one of the worst (if not the worst) modern day atrocities in the world and doesn't hold a CANDLE to something as common as wartime rape. your whataboutism isn't the gotcha you think it is. more people need to know about it. if you think parts of history shouldn't be taught, or point to one that was swept under a rug as if it shouldn't be taught as well, i question your integrity.

the amount of people who didn't know about unit 731 and learned about it through this drama is astounding. i only found out about it earlier this year, and learning of the event changed my life. in japan, they don't teach about it school, and many japanese refer to it purely as a work of fiction (“The Devil's Gluttony") or claim it's been "exaggerated". the japanese wikipedia page omits about 60% of the english version. but this isn't for me or you to defend or protest. here are some actual (translated) tweets from japanese people:

maybe it's bc unit 731 is something im extensively interested in, but i like the show. im eager to know what happens next, and though there are a lot of flaws script and characterization-wise, the plot is engaging. it's a solid show. not great but not bad either. were people expecting some kind of romance? idk
the beginning shows it being destroyed in manchuria and i guess they're trying to depict it as them having moved their headquarters for human experimentation to korea

im a woman who doesn't want to work and would love to just be a homemaker. i don't want to build a career or climb coorperate ladders. i also love feeling dainty and feminine next to masculine men who have strong protective instincts, and love when they enjoy being with someone who can bring that side out of them. ultimately, i feel like FORCING an ideal is what's wrong.
