He is someone who will evolve in this story. At this moment, he seems arrogant (but it is due that he can fall at any moment totally on the bad side, due to the hurt). That's why the key phrase of this drama that appears in the trailers is: "Just one thought and you become a god, one thought and you become a demon."
Ps: There's a lot of depth here: it means that the hero will have to choose. Either he follows one path, or he chooses another. Several characters in this drama are at this same dualistic crossroads. From villains to heroes. From heroes to villains.
2-The female is not simple-minded as you say. In fact, it is the foundation that fights for the integrity of the hero. I don't feel that way. I like this slow pace. Because just action, fighting, movement by movement, wouldn't engage me with the story. I like the characters' conversations. The nuances of feelings and meanings. If it didn't have that, when the movement and action arrive (it's just a bunch of energetic scenes, without the depth of relationships.) But because of these intimate moments, the more action-packed moments and fast-paced facts will have more meaning. (At least that's what I think.) And I think everything is in its right place (at least so far), better organized and developed than the plot in the book and in the anime.
