To prove it, he handed the Jade pendant to Gu Jiu Si. Gu Jiu Si despairs and wants to look for his father. Yu Ru and Mister Wan try to hold him back but he only gives up when Yu Ru shouts that his mother is waiting for him.
10-(At the Wang mansion):
Governor Wang talks with Luo Zi Shang. Luo Zi Shang sat in his blue robe, held his fan and watched calmly. Luo Zi Shang's subordinate informs that they searched all over the city but did not find the couple Gu Jiu Si and Liu Yu Ru. Governor Wang says that they are just two people, it is not possible that he vanished into thin air, or disappeared into the earth, who orders them to continue looking for the two. Luo Zi Shang looks with his sharp honey eyes at the governor and says: Your Highness, take it easy. Governor Wang asks if Luo Zi Shang has formulated any ideas. Luo Zi Shang just smiles confidently in silence.
Mister Wan shows one last secret passage to Gu Jiu and Liu Yu Ru who are both dressed in disguise clothes and wearing fake mustaches. Mister Wan says he can no longer hide something from them. That the entire Weng family has been captured and will be executed if young Wengchan (Gu Jiu Si's most playful friend) doesn't come forward. So, Wengchan decided to turn himself in to Wang and is already there waiting to be executed that very day. Gu Jiu Si gets up and says he knows what's important but he needs to (somehow) send a message to his friend.
11-(On the execution stage:)
Wenchang, in broad daylight, is kneeling and chained on the wooden stage surrounded by soldiers and a small audience watching. He is next to a wooden log where he will lay his head to be decapitated by the executioner. Wang Shanquan is at his post in uniform as a sentencing judge, and sits watching shrewdly. While Luo Zi Shang is sitting somewhere else (as if on a porch of a sumptuous wooden house). He is sitting with his fan in hand, head reclined as if in a peaceful nap, but aware of what is going on around him. A soldier arrives and informs Luo Zi Shang that they have searched the entire city for Gu Jiu Si and have not found him. Luo Zi Shang still calmly and with his eyes closed orders them to keep looking. And searching carefully. And warns that if they show up, they'll be in disguise. Luo Zi Shang's subordinate respectfully asks, if someone as disloyal and cowardly as everyone says of Gu Jiu Si would have the courage to appear in such a situation. Luo Zi Shang continues with his eyes closed and with a calm countenance he gives a small smile. In the middle of the scaffold, Wenshang is given a last drink of booze. Wang says Wenshang is an important character in the city and cannot leave without it. Wenshang drinks the drink and throws the small bowl on the floor which shatters. Wang says he underestimated the sibling friendship between him and Gu Jiu Si. And tell the boy that there is one person who can still save his life. Wenshang retorts by saying that even if Gu Jiu Si doesn't show up at that moment to save him, he knows that they are still brothers. At that moment, in a hidden place, Gu Jiu Si with a saddened look watches the scene together with Yu Ru. Gu Jiu Si's look shows that he knows that these words by Wang are intentionally against him. At that moment, the scene shows Luo Zi Shang watching and listening to the words of Gu Jiu Si's friend. Luo Zi Shang's countenance is not one of satisfaction.
Wenchang even tells Wang that if Gu Jiu Si were to come there that day, he would be being unreasonable and losing focus on what is most important. Gu Jiu Si lowered his eyes saddened. Wang sits at his post and says that he did not expect a young man who only lived for the amusement of cockfighting or dog racing, that this nephew of his would be so brave in the face of death. Wenshang says it's not difficult to face death, just close your eyes, put your legs together and enter the next life, cross the bridge of oblivion. And that he lived 20 years of leisure and fun. He thought he would go on for the rest of his life, riding horses and watching flowers, dog racing and cockfighting, always in fun and freedom. But now will come great suffering and troubled times. And he who grew up in wealth and enjoyment could not bear this suffering and troubled times in this life and the coming storm and the collapsing world. Luo Zi Shang hears these words with the countenance of someone who has a deeply heavy heart. Wenshang continues his speech and says, “In life people are like water, wherever water flows, you will be taken there. That nobles and commoners alike will go through this fight. No one will escape it. And having to go through this path of life with dignity and still manage to save other people's lives, that's hard to happen. I cannot bear such a difficult task. I'll leave that to Jiu Si.
At that moment Jiu Si (without them seeing him), throws the red scarf out the window, the same scarf that his friend gave him and he accepted as a lucky sign on Yu Ru's birthday. Wenchan, for a moment, sees the scarf fly through the window and his gaze is surprised and he realizes something in his memory.
Luo Zi Shang, in his luxurious blue outfit, sitting on his chair, gives the hand signal for his subordinate to approach and tells his subordinate with a sharp look to follow the direction of the red scarf. The subordinate responds promptly.
Wenshang, seeing the scarf, says: that no matter where Gu Jiu Si is, he is waiting for a brother in the afterlife. And that Gu Jiu Si in this life needs to be a hero and fight, and expel all those who live unfair lives using human lives as an object of exchange. Luo Zi Shang hears the words and their expressions and looks at them as if to say: “how wrong you are, thinking you are so fair”. Wenshang continues: Gu Jiu Si, return peace to the people. And bring peace to the world. If I'm reincarnated as a human, let's go horseback riding and have a drink together. Shenquang laughs, and Wang takes the seal and throws it, ordering them to execute him now. The executioner places Wenshang's head next to the trunk. Shenquan smiles and the executioner beheads him. But we only hear the sword fall and we hear the rattle of the blade. Yu Ru turns a scared face. Gu Jiu Si continues to look sad. Gu Jiu Si's gaze now near the window is resolute and encouraged, but mixed with sadness. Luo Zi Shang sitting in his chair maintains a determined and encouraged look. But with a determination that shows a small trace of sadness. But he gets up determined and goes down the wooden stairs.
12-(In the middle of the street:)
Mister Wan watched the soldiers run in pursuit of Gu Jiu Si and Yuru. The soldiers enter the room where Yu Ru and Gu Jiu Si are, but they manage to hide inside a closet first. From inside the closet they hear Mr. Wan take the carriage and run at full speed, losing the attention of the soldiers. When the soldiers saw the chariot rushing away, they left the enclosure and shouted not to let them escape. They run after the carriage. After the soldiers run down the wooden stairs, Yu Ru asks Gu Jiu Si for the two of them to leave soon.
The soldiers in the middle of the street run and bring the captured Wan lord from inside the carriage. The soldiers holding Mister Wan, meet Luo Zi Shang and his subordinate halfway. Luo Zi Shang in a soft and calm voice tells Mister Wan: “This has nothing to do with you. You are just one of countless merchants under the control of the Gu family trying to make a living. To think that you are willing to sacrifice your life for them is unthinkable. Lord Wan says that he is indebted to the Gu family. And that he will die without regret to repair this family. Mr. wan gives an open and relaxed laugh even though he is holding by soldiers and about to die. Luo Zi Shan gives a beautiful youthful smile in contrast to the extreme life and death situation he decides on at that moment. Mr Wan continues to laugh. Luo Zi Shang looks down with a more restrained smile and signals his subordinate to finish off Mister Wan. Luo Zi Shang leaves with his smooth stride. And the subordinate promptly raises his sword and beheads Mr. Wan who immediately falls dead on the ground. The subordinate watches the man fall to the ground.
13-(In the middle of the woods:)
In another scene Gu Jiu Si and Liu Yu Ru flee in the middle of the forest, with their disguise clothes, the same poor and less ostentatious clothes. Halfway through the woods they meet another friend who survived with disguise clothes too who greets them. He asks the couple to follow them to an abandoned and precarious wooden house, full of cobwebs and straw, and they start talking. The 3 are very sad and downcast. Gu Jiu Si coments that Wenchang knew he would go there to see him. The other friend says it was good that he knew that. The friend reports that the Ye family were all wiped out, their bodies burned. He hadn't heard from any survivors, with the exception of Ye Shian as he had traveled to the academy. The episode ends, with Gu Jiu Si lowering his sad face, and Yu Ru with a sad and surprised face.
