She said the novel did a great job in worldbuilding as well as developing personalities for the characters. However for it to be translated well to the small screens, there are kinks and gaps that need to be filled out. With regards to Xuanji’s current situation, Liu Fang said that it’s all part of a planned progression for her character who’ll have lots of growing up to do. She will make mistakes but she’ll own up to them, learn from them and make things right. As for the confusion between demon and god identities, she said “Gods also have demons. Demons are not necessarily bad. People often have weaknesses. There is no high or low, only good and evil.” To further emphasise this point, Liu Fang closed her explanation by saying “In this story, both humans and demons are mere chess pieces, they are the victims of this battle. In the end, what we hope to achieve is to end the thousand year fight and return to the integration of the three realms. Identity does not mean anything. I totally, totally agree with you. (And speaking of Ye Hua in Ten Miles of Peach Blossons, there is a moment when BaiQian understands that the aura that was there in the stone to heal a certain person could only be Ye Hua, as she felt "a strong and tender beauty", is another comparison, but I’m not remembering which one it was (but it was taken from the book), but represented with mastery by the filmmakers. I dont think XJ is dumb. You can see how many times he actually trust Sifeng and go against her father or HC.
You have reached the point. She is feminine, sincere, and strong. She fights to the end for what she wants, and for whom she loves. Face and show your power.
