Too Ambitious for its Own Good

Without a doubt, this show suffers from (oddly) too few episodes. The production decisions and rushed editing, especially in the beginning, created a disjointed introduction that only suffers as more characters, sects, and prequel plot lines invade the show. A storyline as complex, emotional, and generational deserves double the episodes. Both generations should have had their own show to make the impact be what they wanted.

The actors did well, the OST was nice, and there were some truly touching moments that can bring tears to the eye. If only we were allowed the time to sit in all such moments, this show could have been incredible.

Zhou Yiran and Bao Shangen carried this show, with their friendships following close behind. The middle third of the show is where it hits its stride. Unfortunately, the show suffers when it doesn’t focus on their romance, because of the long list of plot lines that overwhelmed it.

It was a fun watch after I got through the hurdle of the first arc. If you watch, don’t expect too much from it. I watched for the couple, but even that took a while to get interesting due to the terrible introduction.

Another bout of wasted potential due to a piled-high cutting room floor. I will keep an eye out on the screenwriter and the actors, as I do see their potential.

Ding Yuxi Shines Despite Cut Scenes

Wei Yun makes this drama. Ding Yuxi is incredible in every role, and this is no exception. His scenes, especially in the beginning of the show, are what kept me watching. While it falls off a bit a little over halfway through, there are some incredibly impactful moments and scenes. If you are a Ryan Ding fan, you won’t regret watching. Though it could have been better if they didn’t cut so many of his scenes. Had the potential to be a 10/10 but they squandered it in favor of extended side plots that lower his run time.

Incredibly moving tale of found family

Beautiful acting, chemistry, and storytelling. I don’t give 10/10 easily, but I’m a hopeless romantic. This was a realistic view of two young people so desperately in love. They belong together. It touches on mental health, stigma, and whether anyone has a choice in the way they are brought up. Arthur Chen is incredible. His subtlety contributes so much to how we perceive the character. No matter what he says or how he acts, anyone paying attention will know how much Li Xun loves Zhu Yun. Zhang Jing Yi is the perfect ray of persistent sunshine to contrast his outward callousness. He strengthens her bravery, and she softens his hard exterior. Their relationship is not always a fairytale, but realistically imperfect. They make each other better, and at the end of the day, that’s what shows their love the most.

This is definitely a must watch for Cdrama fans.
