I never hated any character before like I hated the emperor. he did not only treat his empress like trash he even made his general's woman his censor will he was fighting a war for him under the excuse of " protecting her" and while promising her not to force himself on her he trued to get her drunk many times and kept trying to get physical with her and when all this didn't work he tried to kill the general saying " out of all the women outside he is eying my woman" and by he here he ment the general and the so called his woman is actually the general's woman. and in the end he was led by the nose by a servent to climbed all her way up ( in his bed) to be a noble censor, and destroyed both his court and his army. The end is really not satisfying at all , yes the got together but they didn't need to waste all those years apart with her in the cold palace thinking that he as dead.

I agree with you, no man on earth would accept to raise a kid who as born out of adultery and what kind of a test were they trying to do , no one in his position would get back with a cheating wife whose pregnant from a guy she recently met no meter how much he loves her because that lie hit the bases of any marriage which is trust. And even if they cleared the misunderstanding things will never get back like before because once trust is gone it's gone forever, just like she lied to him in this meter she would lie again. Also the ML was forced to this marriage in the first place while the FL has been lying to him since ep 1 when she pretended to be a man. So in my opinion this plot is messed up from beginning to end.
