i feel like the pacing is a little bit fast. i thought the master-servant setup would last longer since it's the highlight of the plot, didn't expect it to be resolved in ep 1 lol. now they're just a typical couple. but i still love the characters they're unique and layered, the actors have good chemistry.
can I be bold enough to say that this had WAYY BETTER bromance than Archives...also, I need a season 2, I will…
aint no way?? i love both shows but the leads' dynamic here is very different from yanxia. the “bromance” in nanyang is deeper and has more emotional layers than whatever relationship hong and shaoshang have!!
i was so excited to add it to my ptw when i read the synopsis—then i saw the tags... the main genre is romance 😞 surely that's straight romance, right?
fanfan's family i can endure... but ziyang is starting to get on my nerves. why does he talk too much?! my ears are bleeding. also can he stop meddling with fanfan and luqing's affairs? gosh dude get a life!
why did the king's mother not get her karma for killing so many people? she's one of the people in the palace with a lot of sins but she's the only one left untouched
during that whole scene they kept doing focus shots of hong's hands. they were def trying to convey something
i love your interpretation! i also see this as a censored bl so those hand shots were definitely implying hong's deepening feelings for shaoshang. when he talked about his past he was fidgeting cause he's being vulnerable, the scene needed physical contact between the leads to help hong settle his emotions, so the director used the “good news” as an excuse to make shaoshang hold hong's hands. and in the end we saw hong rubbing them like he was genuinely touched by that move from shaoshang. this isn't the first time shaoshang had held his hands but the previous ones he was weirded out this time he cherished that act. at this point shaoshang has already melted hong's walls and entered his heart.
