piecing together what Rang has been saying, my guess is

Rang's life was saved by the governor (man raising the snake baby). Rang is indebted to the governor and cannot deny his wish. Governor has asked for something big - which needs reviving imoogi and protecting imoogi..

Rang has been giving hints to Yeon + his anger towards yeon (hence the complex underlying messages and rang's struggle with who he is and what he is doing right now... would rather die)

ultimately, imoogi was ruining the nation. Daughter/FL rose against him.. he obviously would have tried to kill her.. but she had yeon's support..
snake will go after her as a revenge..both on her and yeon

and yeon either needs to find a way to extract imoogi's soul from jiah or kill jiah to kill imoogi (clearly if even tiniest pieces latches on the life.. imoogi can rise again..as it happened this time, where a piece was left that yeon didn't know about and shaman harboured it with the governor)
