On Takumi-kun Series: Drama Oct 29, 2025
After the extremely bland movie adaption last year, I wanted to give this a try. Hoping they would go a bit deeper into the story, while showing at least some goddamn EMOTION. But looking at the comments, I won't even bother. I'll just cherish the originals 🫠
My goodness, they really should have left the original movies alone. 😭

The Takumi-kun movies were my introduction to the wonderful world of BL, so when I heard there was going to be a remake, I couldn't contain my excitement. What I loved about the previous Takumi films was the palpable sensuality between the two main characters. The chemistry between Hamao Kyousuke and Watanabe Daisuke was truly amazing. And even the two original actors from the first version had some chemistry between them. And even though the quality of those films wasn't always te best, they truly made up for that. So with that in mind, I could't wait to see how they would translate this to the more modern version of my favorite movie.

Then, after months of waiting, I finally got to watch it today. And man, was I dissapointed.

Because I have absolutely no clue what the idea was behind this film, because it was truly rubbish. This film only lasts 1 hour and 17 minutes (even less if you don't count the credits) and in the first 50 minutes, the two 'main characters' (because I honestly forgot about that sometimes) hardly have any interaction with each other. In fact, the side characters often have more screen time than Takumi himself, whom the film, ACCORDING TO THE TITLE, should revolve around. Then, in the last +/- 35 minutes, they try to convince us that one likes the other?! This is then shown in the typical Japanese 'prudish' way of stiffly pressing their lips against each other.

Don't get me wrong. I really don't need a full-on sex fest on my screen if it doesn't fit the mood. But at least make an effort to let the audience feel the romance?! And maybe I missed it, because I was in complete disbelief that they were going to cram the 'romance/bl part' in the last 20min, but did they just completely leave out Takumi's traumatic backstory on why he is so skittish and touch-averse?

Maybe they make a sequel and improve some things, but my expectations about that are 0. For now I'm going to forget this movie exists and go back to watching the originals.
