wow thats a really good point I had it pegged as the younger actor playing the older one from start to finish, he definitely has him under his complete control the whole play and if you look at it for the angle of him being the real method actor then their are a lot of clues throughout the whole film that say even their relationship was all set up by him leading the older along, but the ending is definatley ambiguous, I think your right about his last look, it leaves you wondering if he truly loved him or was just leading him from the start. seriously such cleaver and well done film.

I feel like its just the opposite actually. like the whole time you see how into him the younger actor is and you think he's getting tricked by the older one but in the end the older actor is the one that gets played. during the entire play scene the one in control is always the younger actor, they show signs of his obsessive personality from the beginning, even the very first lines of the movie announcing the play seem to hint that the younger guy has a real perfectionist personality, plus the fact that he was memorizing books and recreating his characters actions in real life. He's the one fully immersed in his character to the point the he's the one leading the older actor along, making him fall for him and guiding his acting during the play, In the end I think he totally showed the other actor up and forced him into situations similar to the Walter character without him even knowing it. he's the real method actor not the older guy.
