Hmmm, I don't know how to answer this but they were always together in scenes and like that they fell in love. There is a breakup in episode 29 at the end because of some problem I can’t spoil that and it finally ends in the last episode 34. There is no love triangle and yes it is a happy ending. I don’t know if we should call this a true romance as there is not much romance in this. There are 2-3 kissing scenes one at the end of 34 and one at 29 where huaijin proposes peiyi and there is a near kiss when they were stuck in a room and poisoned in episode 13. And that's all.
