you seem to forget that he was raised in a environment that this kind of behavior was considered normal. just look at his parents' relationship.
him already acknowledging his behavior is a good thing. all he needs is an opportunity to grow.
it's realistic. they show their imperfections instead of trying to make them immaculate.
