IMO they threw that plotline in after it failed censorship, so I highly doubt it.
Since a lot of the plot failed censorship, which is one of the reasons why we don't understand why Ying behaves in such a lame way in the drama, I doubt it will stick to the novel for the upcoming episodes. They deleted vampires (I think they use 'monster/disease/abnormality' to depict SZH's superpower), drinking blood, and all the Japanese propaganda scenes. Even though they missed some important and interesting details, so far, the bigger picture of this drama is 80% following the novel, and they adapted it BEAUTIFULLY because the novel is so boring! In my opinion, the production team really did their best with how it turned out in high quality. It's insane, I initially thought it would be another low-budget drama, lol.

I think the director wants us to give LYL a second chance to see him change sides...? 👀
