I'm usually not into the second male leads and root for the leads to get together, but I gotta say that Yi Ra felt more like the male lead than Hae Sung ever did. Hae Sung was such a bad character.

More than likely it was his relative like an Uncle. Despite the problems with his dad, he probably hasn't seen or heard from his mother since she abandoned him. I also wouldn't be surprised if he hated her more. Say what you want about his dad (who I think became a better person), his mother was way worse. The only reason his dad hit her that time was because she was cheating on him.

I'm gonna have to disagree with her abruptly falling for him. She was clearly falling for him deep down for awhile. At one point her friends pointed out that "her mouth said one thing, but her eyes said another" when it came to the ML(eyes) and SML(mouth).
