I was going through my 'watched' list, came across this show and realized I had NO memories or thoughts about this show what so ever. I probably watched it around the time it aired.. Apparently I rated it a 6/10 at the time and wrote that I 'appreciated it for what it was, but that ML's condition was super realistic and unnecessary'.
Reading the comments here, I see that I'm not alone in being confused by this drama. I mean. I'm still enjoying it enough to not consider dropping it, but there are just so many things that are... weird? First and foremost, the interpersonal relationships between the characters. Like, the mother (but not really mother because she's the younger version of herself) and the son. I'm getting serious hints (from SO MANY CHARACTERS) about it becoming romantic but that would just be.. ugh, odd. Like, that can't be where it's heading - that'd be too much for mainstream broadcast, wouldn't it? And then now, the ML's foster dad is somehow related to the time/Alice conspiracy and has kidnapped the professor? I'm so lost.
I think people rate based on how grades were done in school, at least in the USA. A 70 is a C- or borderline D…
Your grades comparison makes a lot of sense! I haven't looked at it that way before.. I guess, since I only started using an A-F grading scale as I entered university that way of thinking isn't ingrained in my mind.
Interesting read! I complained about the ratings not really being objective just a few months ago in my feed and I see, based on this, that I wasn't the only one thinking along those lines :)
Personally I don't tend to use the ratings for helping my decision to start a new drama, I instead try to have a look at the reviews and comments that users have left. Perhaps that is also why I don't really care all too much about the rating of shows that I like - if I enjoyed it, that is good enough for me. I also use the ratings system more for my own personal reflection after I finished watching the show - and thus, my ratings are more useful for me to compare how I liked one show compared to another.
Down-rating is not something I engage in as that would wouldn't really work with my way of using ratings. In my opinion, people's negative opinions of dramas are equally as valid as positive ones, so if they truly did not enjoy it then they should of course give it a low score, but to do it just to 'even out the score', or to ensure that their favorite drama is rated higher seems rather childish.
I use MDL a lot, but more so as a personal way of tracking my drama watching - before I used to update a word document in which I wrote when I finished a drama, my personal rating and thoughts on the drama. Therefore, I'm not really interacting much with other users - thus, no fights. But other than that, I just see fighting over trivial things such as this a waste of time, so I don't see myself getting into fights even if I were to use this site more socially.
I was very surprised when I saw the news. Sadly, I've never been able to use the service since I live in Europe, but I'm sure I'm gonna feel the impact as the sites I do use don't really sub the shows themselves. I've gotten used to getting fast subs for basically every serier I want and I really don't wanna go back to how things used to be...
On another note, this kinda reminds me of the big MEGA shutdown years ago - not in content, but in the consequences I imagine is gonna come out of this... Hopefully I'm wrong.
I'm enjoying the drama a lot and crave for the next episode to be released. But I just keep thinking about how the age thing is creepy... I mean, in international age the girl was put into the coma at 16 - and that is her mental age, and so her ending up with the ML who's 30 is creepy (doesn't matter that he had a crush on her then). But at the same time her being together with the nephew is also creepy as he's so much younger than her physical age... I wish I had never taken note of this :/

But if you can only rate dramas that you finish (and thus probably liked at least to some degree) then people, like me, wishing to know if this drama is worth starting or not won't get the 'full picture'. The rating is there to gauge how well received a drama or movie is so not only the 'fans' voices should be heard, at least in my opinion.
