more case-solving mystery than wuxia, but doesn't really hit the mark on either. some cool fight scenes and choreography. absolutely garbage final arc and last episode.

saving graces: no romance (thank god), bai yutang, the trio have good banter when they're together. otherwise: middling, sluggishly paced, repetitive plot beats, unbelievably stupid conundrums and revelations, boring villains.

he's poisoned on and off every couple of episodes but if you're here for fight scenes he does get to have some good ones

sloppy mess of a story about the world's most elderly 17 year old meeting some guys and declaring them his best friends, then pissing off for 90% of the story. we pretend to do a wuxia for a minute and then pivot into "nirvana in fire, but for stupid people". masterful use of the "tell, don't show" method of storytelling throughout.

also phenomenal stuff in the "romance" department between Main Character and Girl. i assume if they cut a lot of material there it's because the actors have the fabled negative chemistry between them. it was kind of like watching two magnets pointing in the same direction being forced together. truly some bullshit.

i kept watching because i liked the second prince. inshallah i will find a modern wuxia that is good.

The two surnames are completely different, both written and pronounced differently in Chinese. FDB's mother's family is Hé (何) and the family with the iron is Hè (贺). No relation.
