rewatching ep9 and can't help but think how Tinn becoming a teacher makes soo much sense since by nature he's already very nurturing, gentle and empathetic. it's soo heartwarming to see his growth here. there's no better way to have a privileged person like him to understand class struggle through education and the wellbeings of children soo being a teacher make him understand how necessary the reform was for the country.
at first, he may understood why Phob joined the revolution on the surface level but now as a teacher, he fully understands why what Phob did was good. it's why the ending scene for ep9 was soo bittersweet for me. when Phob was starting to have doubts if what he did was the right thing, Tinn pulled him back and told him that it was and the change may not come in a drastic form, but it is starting to take shape in the smallest ways already by making changes for the new generation of children after them.
//also, i may or may not have cried when Tinn read what one of his students have written and him looking almost wanting to burst out crying too, it truly got to me. that was such a beautiful scene it resonated alot with me and it's funny because i didn't even cry on some of the more emotional scenes previously lol//
do you guys watch an emotionally egaging story and just dumbing it down to a soap opera of what?
your essay and rundown on Phob and Tinn's characters are soo shallow it hurts my brain from just reading them. it's no wonder you'd mansplain the show like it's just a simple soap opera.
1. Phob WAS oppressed. he's literally a son born from a mother whose family belongs to generations of ex-slaves to the royal family. he talked about this when he fought with his mother on episode 1.
2. just because Tinn's family treated their servants a /little/ better than most doesn't mean these servants are not oppressed. alot of them were uneducated, have no lives outside of serving the Varakulvatin family. Phob being the only exception was probably because of his closeness to Tinn but he still doesn't have rights like the elites. like in episode 8, Phob have said that the education he receives from Vasin was TRANSACTIONAL. the show literally spoon fed you this information that the royals just want a smart slave that they can use.
3. soo no, Phob does NOT feel oppressed just solely because he was banished from loving Tinn. that was only part of the oppressions from the numerous others he has encountered.
4. what's the correlation between Phob being a successful military captain and his ability to cry? is he supposed to be a robot who shouldn't bottle human emotions? what is your point.
5. Phob IS a principled person. the way he has chosen his duty for the common people, joining the revolution to change the government system to uplifts the lives of the oppressed lower class people who struggled to live under the chokehold of the absolute monarchy system while putting his love life second IS showing his principle. he said it to Tinn himself that he'd do it again if he can turn back the time.
6. believing in the cause he's part of whilst getting hit with realities that his superiors will get their hands dirty to keep them in power does not make him easily manipulated lol.
7. your read on Tinn as "a prince who was written like a disney princess, naive to the the point of stupidity, with one of the worst martyr complex in a series for dramatic effect" is some of the worst mischaracterisation of Tinn i've read yet lmao.
8. Tinn is literally someone who's been living on depression, repressing his homosexuality and self identity for 11 years because he was pressured to do soo by his father in order to uphold the status, honour and name of their family. did you even realize his regressive personality from a bold and confident teenager to this mild mannered, cautious and mellowed down adult? that sort of change comes from years of repression of your self worth.
9. Tinn has always been a selfless person. he'd put others wellbeings before himself, that has always been his character that remains from his teenage years. he'd let go of Phob to ensure his safety from being harmed by his father and to honour his duty to his family before his own needs, and he took the bullet for Phob because his safety has always been his priority, his "martyr complex" did not come out of nowhere, he has always BEEN selfless.
10. "dude was educated in the west and tried to find job as dye mason and goods porter with sad effect" i'm sure the show has spoon fed you with information that they're currently experiencing an economic downturn (effects from the WWI) and Tinn's family has their name and reputation ruined because of Chat's embezzlement and Vasin being part of the royal faction whom are opposing the Khana Ratsadon government, soo i'm guessing you should understand why it's effecting his ability to find jobs that are befitting his qualifications right? but from your brilliant analysis guess not.
11. i'm not even going to comment further on the rest of your essays because you're not even paying proper attention to the show even with all the information being spoon fed to your face.
sometimes i find it crazy when i read comments on TEOH from different platforms and people are saying how they understand why Chat is who he is because of the treatment from his father or how they understand where Vasin comes from because he's a traditionalist classist monarch from his era who "loves" his son, Tinn soo he did the things he did but at the same time will antagonise Phob for doing the things he did while being part of the revolutionaries.
i understand that alot of viewers tends to root for Tinn alot more because we relate to his character, on his struggles and perhaps even get soo mesmerised by his beauty (it happens to me too lol) that people feels stronger emotions when he gets hurt soo people are quick to blame it all on Phob even tho most of Tinn's misery didn't even come from him.
Vasin and Chat are the number one cause for majority of Tinn's grief and misery. Tinn was miserable for 11 years because Vasin forcefully separated Phob from him and because he wants Tinn to keep the status quo for his royal family while Chat is the main cause for his family's downfall, making them go into financial ruin due to his embezzlement of public funds, and both of them has never even shown any remorse nor guilt for the things they did yet somehow i've seen people gives more grace to their characters than they do for Phob (whom has shown soo much guilt for as much of a thought to use Tinn on his missions) that i found rather unfair tbh.
it's honestly a bit frustrating to see people misplacing their blame game solely onto Phob. it feels like you're watching an entirely different show from these people ngl lol.
I want sad ending I know it would be brutal but it must be realistic, I can't see they can make clear things in…
they're seemingly moving the story into the boworadet rebellion (idk how they will cover this with just 2 eps left i hope it's satisfying at least) soo the possibility of that ending happening is there. i'm prepared for any ending tho because just like you said only a realistic ending will fit this series at the moment.
the one word i can describe for episode 9 is bittersweet. it felt like a starting point to a resolution but it's not there yet. i love this ep more than i thought i would. the pacing of this show has been soo good and i cant believe we're only left with 2 more eps. kinda dont want this show to end yet 🥲
Which he didn't understand stop lying if he understood I'm not saying he should forgive him because what he did…
i'd take that tinn asking phob if he'd do it again as a way for him to reaffirm phob's motivation and determination to his cause not because he doesn't understand what phob is doing tbh. to me, tinn for the entire episode just looked overwhelmed and was trying hard to process everything (like mind you the whole thing happened in a span of 2 days) on top of feeling like he's being lied to by phob and his guilt with everything.
overhearing phob's convo with his mom and hearing phob's anger towards the monarchy when he spoke back to chat probably put a perspective on him. to me, it looked like tinn is trying to process on that fact that he himself is part of the very system that phob despises. it'd probably feels overwhelming for him to think that phob loves him but despise his family and the monarchy. he'd probably think why did phob even loves him like that in the first place. it juxtapose phob's ideals and believe system. i think the reason why he said the two of them cannot fall in love is in a way of reflecting those thoughts and he's not wrong to think that way.
also from the preview for next ep, tinn sort of reaffirms back those thoughts when he said that he doesn't want to be in the way between phob's love for him and his ideals, that it's better for them to be separated than be together. and same with how tinn felt guilty when he heard how phob struggled in life after he was ousted from the palace with his mom, i believe tinn would've also feel guilty for being part of the monarchy system that oppresses people like phob. he'd probably think he's not worthy to be in love with phob for being part of the people who caused his grief.
tinn at the moment gave me the impression that he's feeling guilty on all sides. on one side he felt guilty for being part of the system oppressing phob and the other his guilt towards his family for seemingly causing their downfall (we all know this is chat's fault ofc). i think for next ep we're going to hear more from tinn's pov and i think it'd be a crucial ep to understand his character more too.
Am I the only one finding this series so boring? I'm in ep 4, and pondering whether to discontinue. After all…
well to each their own. i'd rec you to still try tuning in to ep5 since this is the ep where the turning point starts to pick up more to see if it would still be 'boring' for you
i honestly find the sympathy for Chat soo overdone. sure, he's neglected by his father and alot of his problematic behaviors may be stem by those neglect but my sympathies for him will only stop at how he's treated by his father. other than that he's just an irredeemable piece of shit lol.
he had literally shot his own brother and act like nothing happened afterwards not even caring to find out if tinn was alive or not. he treats Phob like a punching bag tormenting him and insulting him just because his father favors him more (which is something not even Phob's fault) and he's a classist piece of shit towards Phob and his mother. a nepo baby (laughable with how stupid he is but Vasin still got him a job dealing with money. ig that stupidity is inherited from somewhere...) and he launders money meant for the people who are already struggling with hunger and poverty.
soo after all that, i find it incredible to see him still being less hated than Phob's mother by viewers lol. i hope his story will conclude with him getting punished as the deserving consequences of his own actions. i'd honestly be mad if they try to sanitize or redeem his character because that would to be too cliche and too undeserving for a character like him.
last week, with ep 6 the ratings were raised to an 8.8 !! who and why tf rated this lower than that ?? THIS MASTERPIECE,…
right? it's honestly weird considering that ep7 is better than ep6 too. i'd hate to think if people purposefully rate it low just out of spite for something
from what i understand tin's family is one of the branch family of the royals. they're not the main ruling royal…
no, the revolution did not revolved around Tin's family only it's the entire government which was the absolute monarchy government. before the revolution, Thailand, as it was called Siam back then was ruled by absolute monarchy meaning the king is the head of the government and the country. Tin's family is part of the monarchy soo they're involved in the government positions like Tin being the royal secretary and Chat having positions in the financial ministry even though he was not qualified for the job.
the series itself talk about how the monarchy was biased and only hire people within the monarchy family itself to work in the government while they neglect the commoners who are more qualified. Chat's character is the obvious example that this show use to show this corruption within the monarchy. he's dumb, got his position in the financial ministry because he's a nepo baby and he steals money from the government for shady investments schemes while the common people were neglected and starving in the streets. Phob literally said this to his face in episode 3.
these are the examples of corruptions that the People's Party, the revolutionaries who Phob is part of wants to fight against. they want to end the absolute monarchy government, reduce the king's power and change it to a more democratic government.
Now I want Thai fans to explain me about the revolution. like I watched a video on yt and got to know the basic…
from what i understand tin's family is one of the branch family of the royals. they're not the main ruling royal family. their titles in thai get lost alot in translation when translated to english. basically tinn's title is 'mom chao' tinnakorn and his dad is 'phra ong chao' vasin. think of it as equivalent (or abit lower) to the marquess/marchioness title from the english royal family in terms of hierarchy which means his grandmother is probably cousins to the current ruling king (from the show's timeline; king rama vii) and holds the title of 'somdet chao fa'.
if there are thai people here can correct me if i'm wrong tho but basically this is what i get from a bit of research. their titles make more sense to the primary audience (thai people) and probably is why it's not surprising to see tin and his family just walking around like normal people in the streets.
at first, he may understood why Phob joined the revolution on the surface level but now as a teacher, he fully understands why what Phob did was good. it's why the ending scene for ep9 was soo bittersweet for me. when Phob was starting to have doubts if what he did was the right thing, Tinn pulled him back and told him that it was and the change may not come in a drastic form, but it is starting to take shape in the smallest ways already by making changes for the new generation of children after them.
