if you have other reccs with generals close to xiao qi id love to know 😔 cuz i reckon with how they're pumping out idol dramas like crazy it'll be a long, long time before we get another good general ml characterization on screen 🥲

whenever they describe a general ml as "gone through hundreds of battles" and they're freshly 20 and look so pretty and sheltered like they haven't stepped outside their homes once. who are they trying to fool 😭 it's like most dramas like to slap the general label on an ml so they seem cool and dependable, but don't try to characterize them beyond the description. In fact, I believe (and this is my personal opinion) bc most general mls are of noble descent, they try to make them fit the image of nobility, and being a general is just their part-time job. Which now that I think about it, xiao qi is the only general I know that's a commoner. And we know that he worked his way up to be general and garnered the respect of his army bc he'd led them to victory countless times before the drama even starts. We saw him be a leader for his troops, saw how he cared for them and their families on and off the battlefield, and saw how he always had his troops at the forefront of his worries even when he had the court on his ass and the fl's inlaws trying to kill him. You could tell he's a formidable general even without the armor on. Other general mls just don't match up in comparison 💀

Don’t even get me started, I already know I’ll never be able to move on 😭💔I’ve watched a lot of general mls before this, and the only one id say comes even a little bit close is ling buyi. But the gap between them both is still faaaaar apart. In my heart, xiao qi set an impossible bar 😭Even though his character is how a general ml SHOULD be like. He’s the standard, but the standard is impossible 😭

i finally finished watching this and jesus this drama was frustrating as hell. it was like everyone in the main cast apart from the main leads don't know what it means to be loyal. that aside, i started this for xiao qi/zhou yiwei and i don't regret it, the best ML ever i don't think anyone i watch after is going to top him. truly the General of all Generals 🫶

imo the story isn't very strong, lots of the political scheming don't make sense and wouldn't slide in a realistic setting... but the drama is well-produced and the leads are incredible actors and have the buzziest chemistry. im watching this for them 🫶

Words can't encapsulate how much I love this drama. THIS is how you write a female-centric work. From start to finish it was a drama written about women for women.
