Best Wuxia movie I've watched this year!
Idk what the reviewers are talking about. I got hooked by this movie because of trailers. Hollywood made a ton of shitty trailers, DONT FOLLOW THEM! Anyhoo, I admit the martial arts in this movie were a bit flashy, ppl flying off a horse, lots of jumping and flying kick...... BUT THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SO GOOD. The cinematic fight scenes did help to make you glued to the screen. While they make the plot so simple : guarding an important figure to chang'an but giving the backstory of the MC and his enemies. Also HOW IS NIC TSE STILL LOOK THE SAME LIKE 20 YEARS AGO? HE'S 52! costume wise, it's in a desert, so the tone is earthy colour. There's one scene remind me of Mad Max lol. Overall if you're looking for a wuxia movie, you can try this one.Was this review helpful to you?

Predictable ending but good family story
ML acting is so flat but he looks really good in action scenes. Put him in action drama instead, please. The plot is quite different from any drama I've watched. The family was once respected, and rich. All 4 members of their male members got into ministry. But because the platriach slighted the emperor of Daxing, he and all male members above 10yo got exiled, properties and money confiscated, and the female members were left with no home, but a small villa. So the wellbeing of these female members who know nothing of businesses or making money all rest to the eldest granddaughter. Who is resilient, optimistic, book-smart, and know what to do. She lifted them off of poverty, changed the behavior of all her aunts and female cousins to leave the old habit of "money makes ones happy" while in fact they should've been invested in people instead. Her issue got more problematic when she fell in love with the emperor's nephew who's practically a prince. And palace intrigue got into her family as well. But of course they can overcome this by showing you that love conquers all. What a cliche.
Again, I was more interested in the side characters who was not 1st dimensional. They grew, they learned their mistakes, their dropped down the arrogance, and they become loveable. While not so much changes in main characters. I find that odd. But it's good for a family drama. Not enough for a rewatch.

Cinematic work but weak in plot
At first, everything looks pretty and the tone of the visual was so cool, with dark brown wood of the buildings, combined with a splash of bold colour like red, teal blue, green, or yellow. The story however is nothing special. Same old same old. A woman being wrongfully condemned but able to rise with her wit and logic. The acting of everyone are superb though. Again, i absolutely love Princess Wanning, though some of her motive were questionable but her being a villain was so captivating. The ending was so unnecessary and so unnatural. Feels like it was made just for cinematic purpose. Was this review helpful to you?

A bunch of good actors that makes me happy
Story is good (for half of them), some scenes are unnecessary and other scenes are lacking. Because the title is Brocade Odyssey, I thought this is about the art of brocade and silk, of course there will be politic issue surrounding the trade of brocade, but I didn't think (or want) to see it only about revenge and fighting only 1 ultimate villain. Though all the casts are terrific, including the side characters, they made this series more enjoyable. The other villains like Bai Sheng, and Niu Wuniang are played so beautifully, though they could put more depth to Bai sheng's bsckstory and more character. But instead they want to put more spotlight on FL. Don't get me wrong, I love Seven Tan. But the highlight of this story isn't just her, but the side characters: the artisan of brocade industry. But the producers and writers pushed them to tbe back and made them just as accessories. So I won't go back to this. Was this review helpful to you?
That was satisfying!
A simple theme of enemy to lovers done well! I loooove all the characters here! Not one of them are boring. The chemistry between 2 MC are great. FL is smart but not overbearing or dominant. ML is dominant but not overly cold, and sometimes weak in front of FL. Both shown their vulnerable sides and show the dynamics within a complicated relationship. They misunderstood stuff but quickly resolved. The conflict between warlords due to incompetence or greed are very good! The plot flows perfectly at good pace, not rushed like the others. And i definitely like the romance between the two!Was this review helpful to you?

Wallace Chung caught my ?
Can't believe he's 51 years old by the time I finished watching this drama. But phew what a journey. Story is old school theme; belittled concubine daughter turns out very smart, logical, and sensible. She didn't ask to be a marquis' wife, but circumstances put her that way. And unlike the other 3 concubines the marquis already has, she didn't bother to fight for his affection nor favor. She has embroidering skill and wants to do business with brocade while fighting a stereotype of a noble woman shouldn't do any business. She did it in secret. Everything is fine from the beginning, the plot is written with care, the slow burn romance is fun to watch because ML has so little smile but the changes can be seen after he fell in love with his wife. BUT, thing go downhill after episode 38. The repetitive plot (betrayed by her trusted maid, stabbed in the back by jealousy concubines) just to get rid of some ppl so we can get the ending, which is "the husband who is devoted to his wife, he won't take on another concubine". And of course some fight to beat the corrupt minister who wants to take down the marquis. I hope china film industry can fix this kind of plot. I keep watching these kind of series because i want to see the lovely costumes, the acting skill, and the cinematic feels of the environment but the story always threw me off the drain. Was this review helpful to you?
Poor writing and sloppy
I don't know how this show got their 10* rating from many reviews while it had so many problems. The actors and actresses has good acting, but the writers, directors, producers decided to put them in bad drama as this. It started good and proper. An abandoned and abused daughter has to come back to her house because she has nowhere to go but she has other intention, for a revenge and for a sentimental feelings called family (who had abandoned her and left her to die). It's a good 10 episodes when the daughter finally met her real mother who holds power in the house but still chose to kick her out. I thought the next arc would be about mending their broken relationship, a redemption of a mother. But instead it went downhill. The ML fell flat, the FL is too busybody, going into everybody's business. And i snapped when they finally chose to leave the family, the mother got her divorce, only to be killed. I can't no longer continue with this ridiculous plot. Was this review helpful to you?
