Yeah, it was really light and didn't have much depth to it. There just wasn't enough time to develop the romantic aspect. I find the title to be slightly misleading as well. But overall, there was nothing in it to take away from my enjoyment while watching the film :D It was a fun little movie.

Basically, since he couldn't cope with her dying, they pretended a UFO took her away instead.
