Best Chinese drama I have watched so far! The romance was well done. The plot was really interesting as we get to see how the ML first tries to play house with the FL in the first 15 episodes. Then we see for about 5-6 episodes where there is distrust between the ML and FL and see how they try to hide things from each other and see them both getting suspicious and grovel around. It was interesting as a viewer to see how they would explain things and get out of suspicion. Then episode 23-31 we see the ML trying to win back the FL, and this angst part was well done, as it was believable. It shouldn't be too easy to win back the FL after he deceived her. So the 8 episodes of chasing her back seemed reasonable. Then after they get back and married, the palace politics are the final portion and they solve the main issue and peace resides over the land. The second and third couples are also well done. It was funny to see the MLs best friend as someone really silly and funny be matched with a pretty, cold girl. The emperor and empress relationship was also refreshing, to see two people help each other and perform their duties. Even if there was no love at first, their personalities and interests seemed aligned and seems like romance could bloom between them after. The plot was interesting, not one episode was boring, leading me to binge watch it in 3 days. The acting, along with the angst were great, and the romance was well done. Happy ending and leads were married before the end and it was not rushed. Worth a rewatch, but dont know if I would put myself through all the angst again.

EP19: They kiss! Although it is ’love and hate might be the same kind of illusion’. “Do you want to taste what hatred feels like?”
EP20: ZhaoQuan and HeZhen drugged scene
EP30: CXZ apologizes to LMT and kisses her forcibly
EP31: LMT cooks for CXZ again and CXZ hugs LMT
EP32: LMT and CXZ (real) kiss on the lips for first time
EP34: HeZhen and ZhouQuan kiss
EP36: Marriage kiss and inexplicit consummation

Also just realized while watching the drama Wang ChuRan really looks like Liu YiFei and Moon GaYoung.

I just finished the drama but I have two questions:

1. Did ZiYu cheat on LiuMianTang? They still never explained that bath scene of him. Or who that girl was. Im confused if LiuMianTang and ZiYu were lovers in the past.

2. Did ShiYiKuan (the general, who is the empress's father) just suddenly change sides? I thought for the drama he was in alliance with prince Sui. He was also CuiXingZhou's rival. In the end it seems like he helped him. But im wondering what caused this sudden changing of sides.
