Reports say that many actors declined the chance to play Tushan Jing, initially it was even dubbed as a "character no one wants to play". Reportedly several who are more well known that D have been offered but declined the offer because they find the character to bland and weak, they felt like the character won't get them any bonus in their careers, thinking that the audience won't like the meak and submissive character of Jing. Seventeen's personality acc to some is boring, not outstanding, weak, a love brain, indecisive, etc. No one wanted to play a character that will just be overshadowed by the most popular character in the novel xl. Have you seen the previews and trailers released before LYF started airing? There were few Jing shots. His screentime was so short. How I remember questioning that last trailer afraid that they cut a lot of his scenes due to being unpopular his previous airport scandal, and the underwhelming and some negative response he got from TTEOTM. The main selling point at that time was the other two characters. There were so few mentions about him. Business wise it's understandable, the other one is more popular, while the other half was highly praised for his acting skills. However, just as the show starts airing, Wei2 was the very first person to gain popularity because of his perfect portrayal as that damaged yet devoted boyfriend Ye Shiqi. Undoubtedly, he attracted the most fans, starting from just 1.5M, he now has 4.4M. With LYF airing, his Supertopic exceeded 1 Billion topics and now has over 3.5 Billion discussions. D has given life to Tushan Jing. He portrayed the role so well and love it hardcore that viewers really think he is the Heavenly choosen Tushan Jing, to the point that several have said he loved his character more than Tong Hua the author. (As we all know, TH said that she liked XL the most, a character she has shaped perfectly leaving no room for others to stand a chance among novel readers). Xl was the most popular character but in the drama version, Tushan Jing can have a head to head battle with him! That shows how effective his portrayal is! With his surge in popularity as well as his character, many were even asking if the audience preference have changed and wonder when did viewers started rooting for the kind, boring, male character. 😅 But the fate has its way of finding the right people to act at the right time. I'm sure many others felt it too same way as I do, that thet after watching the show, they came to love Jing more in the drama than in the novel. All thanks to D's honest portrayal. Yeshiqi/Seventeen/Tushan Jing deserved all the love that D has given to the character. Kudos to the casting director for choosing and trusting a new face to play the role and be Zi's official partner. Thank you for letting us meet the perfect boyfriend we could never have.
