I enjoyed the first two episodes, but wonder how they will wrap up the story with only 8 episodes to go. I may simply be seeing something that isn't there; but it seems to me that the actress Go Yoon Jung has captured just the right amount of expressions and speech patterns of Mu Deok to blend the past with the present, while still creating a completely new character. It has created a nice transition for me. I love the Mu Deok character and the Jin Bu Yeon character is very well portrayed. I love her energy and directness, among other things.

A second season is about the only thing that makes sense given what we know. Korean dramas can rush endings, so…
By coincidence, I saw your comment here. I dislike being the cynic, but I can't help but wonder what the real story is behind the reduction in episodes. I find it very hard to believe that their motivation was a rapid and higher quality resolution of the story. My first reaction was a problem on set or they want to ensure they leave on a high note so that it will end with viewers wanting a second season. They simply do not reduce episodes when the ratings are good. I confess I am not a huge fan of second seasons. One thing that attracted me to kdramas was that the stories were wrapped up in one season. I find it very frustrating when a season ends and the only way the story can be completed is with a second season that never comes. Granted there are the exceptional shows that warrants a second season. Also having a second season doe not necessarily mean a show can not have a proper ending in season one. In short, I dislike the tv series approach where a show is cancelled after season X with a clearly unfinished story. Okay, that was a bit of a tangent.

I hesitated to write this because of the risk it would be misinterpreted. This is not a criticism, it is only a comment on how the use of language changes or is used differently at different times or in different places. When I read the word "comeback" it has a different meaning than "coming back" or "returning". When I read "comeback" it means that the person, product or group lost popularity (or their popularity greatly diminished), or failed at something, or lost something and now they are returning (or trying to return - if they are trying to make a comeback) to their former status, popularity or prosperity. A comeback in this sense usually occurs after a setback, or retirement for example, it does not occur simply because a person was not doing the activity. For example, Tiger Woods winning the Masters at Augusta in April 2019 after he fell from the position of the number one golfer in the world (his life included an affair that led to divorce, infidelities, being arrested for driving under the influence, numerous car crashes, and countless injuries). Further examples can be found among celebrities, politicians, sports stars etc who have had major setbacks or faded into obscurity and then after that one role, issue or game they experience a comeback. I have seen comeback as used in this article many times in reference to kdrama stars, but to me they are only returning or coming back to the big screen or to star in a new drama. I admit this was an irrelevant comment; however, regardless that after years of seeing the word used to mean returning or coming back in articles about kdramas - I still expect to read that someone is making a comeback after a setback etc....I suppose I should adapt.

where was alcohol prohibited?
This is a late reply, but several countries and regions of some countries prohibited the sale of alcohol such as South Africa, and I think Greenland and a province in France. There may have been others and I don't know the extent of the bans.

There are two main married couples and the story primarily focuses on one of those. At some point, it appears the drama was changed from the original plan which included an age gap couple. That couple seems unlikely now. There are potentially 5 secondary couples, although one of those gets plenty of screen time and arguably has become a main couple. So far the screen time for the other three is quite limited to non-existent depending on the episode.

How is possible that the ratings are so high? Is it good ?
Everyone will have their own opinion, but while I am still watching it (with lots of skimming) I find it incredibly dull. I do not know why it would have high ratings, and I am fairly tolerant of mediocrity.

This drama used two type of recordings: life-recording with the original actor's voices (especially the main characters)…
Thank you very much for your detailed response. I appreciate you taking the time to do so. I would find it interesting to hear the Youtube explanations you refer to. Cheers.

I really enjoyed your article. Thank-you. I have not watched the drama yet, but it reminded me of a question I often have and I only raise it as I think out loud. I suspect the answer varies from drama to drama. I must watch Asian dramas with subtitles, and I wonder how much of the dialogue I lose because I cannot understand the original language. I prefer not to watch dubbed dramas because I enjoy the interpretations of the characters by the original actors and the emotions they convey. Anyway, I still enjoy the dramas even if I am missing out.

I particularly agree with your comments on the writing for the series. Regarding the various disagreements in this post and others, I confess to be a bit confused since I have been unable to find any guidance with respect to what the ratings mean and in any event even with guidance people who equally like a drama may assign different ratings depending on what the ratings mean to them. For me, for example, a drama that rates a 10 would be extremely rare and would essentially have to be one of the dramas that people are likely to mention for years to come. Furthermore even with a set of guidelines for ratings, it is like disagreeing over whether a person likes the food at a particular restaurant, as you say everyone is entitled to an opinion, and so for people to disagree on the rating alone is pretty much a endless loop. Again as you state, the rating shown is based on many people providing ratings which at least should provide more information than that of one person. Anyway, one person's 7 may be another person's 8, which is why I am generally more interested in the comments than the rating.
