I already posted this earlier today but I think it worth another shot !
FAIR WARNING big rantling ahead!
Ok so I need to grumble here because I have enough of this word: TOXICITY. As everyone seems incline to use it for any relationship they disagree with, I will try to set things straight. A TOXIC relationship is one in witch one (and sometimes both) partner systematically drags the other down, be it physically, mentally or emotionnaly, to the point of damaging them. A toxic relationship in unhealthy AF but all unhealthy relationships are not toxic AND a toxic relationship is not always unredeemable and you can often work to improve it.
That defined, let's try to apply this to the main characters in the series.
KP is the exact oposite of TOXIC (yes Karen I wrote this, deal with it!) They are dysfonctionnal we can all agree on that but point me any perfect relationship and I will show you how it is just fake! If it was a toxic relationship, they would systematically go against each other and their self esteem would be so low they would be drepressed and would not stand to be in the same room without dragging the other down. So? Are we talking about the same series when you qualify them of TOXIC? The same guys that can't keep their hands off each other, support each other, APOLOGISE to each other??? Yep so NOT TOXIC my dear sorry to rain on your parade
Now let's look at our precious VP. I hear you cry victory from Venus but unfortunatly for you, NOPE this is not a TOXIC one either!! I will tell you why. At the beginning, Pete is not even a dot on Vegas radar where Pete has a morbin fascination for him (I'm talking about the torture cession in ep7 where Pete never advert his eyes or flinch once) Then they play cat and mouse but nothing toxic in here. A lot of seduction games are similar. Now when Pete is captured, tortured and detained (yes because THIS is where people mislabel them as toxic at first) this is not a toxic relationship either because in a toxic relationship you are SUPPOSED to support your partner but don't. Here they are kidnapper and abductee, executionner and victim, guard and prisonner. Yep! They are not on the same side so why are you expecting them to support each other? Because qualifying their relationship as toxic at this point is as good as saying that they are supposed to want the best for the other. Duh! Then there is this transitionning state from ennemies to lovers. Toxic? YES!!! Yes Karen you have your toxic relationship here BUT sadly for you it is just a transitionning state and they get out of it... Too bad! And finally from the moment Vegas apologises and begs Pete not to leave him for Vegas and from the moment Pete quits his job and goes after Vegas for Pete the toxicity ends. What you have here is not a toxic relationship anymore. It is CODEPENDENCY and POWER EXCHANGE. Codependency because they need the other to function and power exchange because they volontarily give the power to the other (Pete to Vegas mainly but a little Vegas to Pete also) and rightly trust each other to use this power wisely.
Here! I needed to write this and if you read until this point you are as bad as me and I love you π
I soooo would like an MV of them with this song if someone could...π₯Ί
Call me sick but for me the very first scene were Kinn says "I'm more like my mum" while shooting a guy blindlessly is the hottest! π€
I like a selfless he is there. He guard is boyfriend silently and ruthlessly without anything in return.
And I agree. I think we are suckers for redemption plots and darker characters
