Total trope experience
I can't disagree with the review by Raiana Freitas. The first half of it made me giggle. But I've got to give points for a drama that does a trope proud.I enjoyed this drama. A lot. AWOL bodyguards? Yep. Can't break the trope. Yeah, the ex and his sister are annoying,. They are supposed to be. The privileged, entitled brats, righteously indignant, persona parts were well played, managing to get in all the requisite overstated bits with minimal whining. Incredulous disbelief replaced the "I'm the one being wronged and mistreated" loops I really dislike. Have to admit I was almost stopped cold when the ever present "impersonated savior" made its appearance.
All of this is offset by the schmaltzy unrequited, hidden love story. ✨💞 💍 Again, I don't think a single trope gets missed. Gauzey camera filters? Lots of aw gee, smile worthy moments along with misunderstandings, overly cautious ML (Cao He), and insecure slow on the uptake FL(Fan Chu Qi). Rock solid performances and HEA ending with no villains left unended.
A FIRST? The music in the subbed version I watched was overly loud. Intentional??? Kudos due to a mischievous or truly aware skilled editor/video creator? Although loud, the dialogue, and miracle of miracles, the subs, survived. Yay! But a demerit for conversion of character names to English. Sniffle...

Worth the time.
I found this to be a "standard" Cdrama storyline. However it sets an example for a well crafted production which is really nice to come across. This allows the actors to carry the storyline and they do it skillfully. The only nitpicky bit is the plot device of Fu Qing Zhou's withheld communication as to true intentions toward Su Tang. But it does fit here. This is my first time seeing Ren Yun Jie (Fu Qing Zhou) & Tan Yan Yan (Su Tang) and, initially, I wasn't sure I'd be all that impressed. Both proved me wrong. The positive YouTube comments should have been a hint? The primary supports are what they should be without being too much.
YT Description: 劇熱門 - "Learning she was to marry his nephew, the usually calm man began to seduce and chase her." Su Tang's marriage to the nephew is to cover up a mistresses' pregnancy and to give her the protection of being a wealthy wife. She agrees to go abroad and return with the child as theirs.
Note: This is Version 2 of 2 as of 2/27/2026 ~ Version 1: "Qing Zhou Du Tang" with Wang Bing Xiang & Lei Fu Man.

One commenter said "Best of this genre.". Likely.
Loved this. Just fun. Found myself smiling beginning to end. That's a 10 for me.Usual "travels into novel as reborn character" tropes minus the over used annoying bits. The FL (Liu Xi Yue) goes op with planning, counters, and retribution. For example, lots of moments, but at 1:19 the actors really milk their double-spin response to FL's 2-person face slaps. Scumbags? Beware. ML/FL relationship? Once they connect, they go all out. No detours or hesitation. The actors played to type, without the usual exaggeration. Music replaced subs but not intrusive.
2/6/2026. The video I watched was on YouTube. Posted by @user-jky. Title: Born-again ugly girl shows up at ex's engagement party in make-up to make him regret it.

Sometimes it's just perfect.
Can't believe no one has left a review for something this good. Maybe because it's #4 of 20 versions (and counting?). How many of the same storyline can you watch? Maybe people could at least drop hints of the ones they loved.YouTube commenters had nothing but good things to say. Several said it's a best, if not the best, version and one they'll rewatch. A lot. A favorite SuiSui. I agree. This is a favorite storyline and this version is just excellent. "Totes adorable". The performances were ALL a treat.
Well... I think I've managed to stay just short of gushing and screeing like a fan girl. If not, I don't care.

Woohoo!!!!!
IMO, this is definitely a 10+ best version of the storyline. Everything was well done. Casting meshed. Even wardrobe and set design. There were times when I thought the music might actually qualify as a supporting character ~ so timely and "appropriate".But one other thing: I'm a sucker for an actor/actress that really owns the craft, especially when they get an opportunity to show so many facets and nuances. ⭐⭐⭐ Wang Nan can REALLY Act! ⭐⭐⭐ Played the bejeebers out of this role & character! I'm going to have to pay more attention to his work! For instance, catch the look in his eyes on their first 'serious' foray into the bedroom?
Yeah, this is a little long for a short drama. But the extra time doesn't suffer for content. Nothing superfluous or repetitive, just a couple settling their foundation. And it's proof that a kidnapping or torture isn't needed to fill in space?

Might be the odd one out, but I just really like this one.
This, and "My One and Only" are the two picks I regularly rewatch. IMO, no contest, the best of the adaptations. None of the casting was found wanting. Incredible performance by Yin Yibo ~ exceptional character nuance and detail. He really does about as much as possible with this character. Story is complete and flows so smoothly there's almost a dreamlike quality. Oh... The music gets a 10 for not being annoying.A lot of subtle reveals amongst the obvious events. It's made clear that, with the marriage cancelled, Shen Nan Zhi's place in the family and social status is considered null. Jiang Jin Nian, the elder brother, is totally protective of that not happening. However, it's shown that he's always been aware of, and caring for Nanzhi; just respectful of roles and boundaries. Although claiming no foundation of feelings, he virtually leaps at the opportunity to marry her. He's returned from abroad, relocated the company headquarters, and embraces the marriage without giving any quarter.

The cast makes this better.
Mostly submitted due to no reviews...Scenes seemed abridged, missing details and just 'flat' at times. No fault of the cast. Zhang Li Ren, Yang Xin Yan(?), and most of cast still very good. Reappearance, resurrection, or reborn mother at the end was random and made no sense. Alive o ghost, could be either? Stlll, pleasant to watch. So far, Sun Zi Hang version, (He Jia Xiao Qian Jin, Ta Die Di Chao Chong) is still my first pic.
Favorite scene - Dueling patriarchs dinner at Master Bai's home. Master Bai grabs Hu Huaichen(?) and Sui Sui and runs away from his own home. Facial expressions, inner dialogues, and panic were really well done. Had me laughing.
MDL cast listing is really sparse. Would be nice if people could do some adds. Child Actor needs to be verified.

THIS is a happy ending?!?!?!
Except for a major flaw in the script, IMO, everything else was actually well done. The drama followed the versions theme with minor differences making for a decent product. We get a reason for that ugly indenture contract. Say you like your tea green? However... Except for being played by Wang Pei Yan, nothing was going to get me past the incredibly unlikable character he played. Which means he did some very nice work? The prince let Luo Ning get bullied to the point of injury or imminent death before standing up for her. Repeatedly. He'd promised the queen he wouldn't marry for life. So the ML got a fake marriage and a slave indenture contract while the queen got to bully her and set her up for death. He supported that green tea's whims at Luo Ning's expense throughout until 'Queenie' was imprisoned for life. (How long until her pardon?). Even in the last confrontation, if She hadn't brought in the miracle doctor? If the empress dowager hadn't been successfully treated? If She didn't have the eunuch bring in the witness? Instant death penalty. Anybody notice he never got rid of that indenture contract until it had been fulfilled? Oh yeah, true love. Then he made her a queen, not his empress (could have been subs, but unlikely...). And best/worst yet, he told her she should see his behavior as a reflection or statement of loving her? She went with that!?!?!? Made me a little bit crazy. And sad.
Another FL that in the end, no matter that she got revenge, she still "settled". Kind of wouldn't mind if I'd missed this one. Sigh.... Yep, I'm blaming the script.

Surprised me.
First time I've been out of synch with one of Bijou's reviews. But appreciate the different perspective. 😗. I thought the performances were true to character. I'm at a solid 10.On the fence with WKM. Not really a hard core fan. But really, is there anything Wang Nan can't do? Both ML characters were bigger than life, although different types of flamboyant unhinged extremes. One was intentional; one was psychotic. If anything, I thought Wang Nan and Wang Kaimu displayed master level craft skills and reigned in their characters making them almost too close to IRL people? Way overwhelming if the rest of the cast hadn't truly supported them. Could go into way too much detail. I found lots to be impressed by.
IMO... This really crosses the boundaries of a big screen production. Locations, sets, wardrobe, etcetera are veritable eye candy. Cast selection and performances are perfection. Would love to see this on a big screen. Saved to rewatch.

Excellence
A few scenes of mob/gangster scenarios and inferences. But kept to a minimum. Nothing excessive or gratuitous. Trope: My boyfriend cheated with my best friend. After breaking up I married his father. (Different in that the marriage was done so she could claim her inheritance, not as an emotional response to the infidelity or for revenge.)Visually elegant. Everything about this is close to perfection. A chance to see some real craft skills. Kudos to casting. Performances, including several supports, more than impressive. Zhao Ting Yi was dominant, even when not on screen. He and Deng Ling Shu were a stellar match. Newer actors (Li Yu Tong & Shu Han Yu) were surprisingly outstanding. Zhu Xiang as Ma San? Awesome! And that's an understatement. The actress who played the clan matriarch managed to be both loving and a true dragon queen. Every one of her and Zhu Xiang's scenes were a treat.
A top rewatch and on my all time favorites list.
AKA - My One and Only
Note: REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHO PLAYED THE CLAN MATRIARCH! And expanded cast info.
