I was enjoying this drama so much! People nice and pretty being friends and playing the piano! Didn't care much about the plot, every character made me smile and I enjoyed the pace.
And then the apocalypses! I hate sad endings but, for personal reasons, I can't stand the death of a young, warm man due to illness, so I avoid those kind of dramas. Never in my wildest dreams would have thought this will be one of those.
And then, after making me cry my eyes out, the ML appears and makes a joke about the FL crying about him returning alive. I would have kill him for real just at that moment. I don't know why, but I keep thinking how will he explain to the rest of his mourning friends the bright idea of faking your own dead, for I don't know what reason..

Thank you for such a well written and well thought article! Kikujiru is a very special movie for me. I know that to add some poetic vibe to violence can be controversial, but as an adult viewer, I've enjoyed that side of Kitano's filmography immensely.
