Both in a prison. Perhaps this may help. The heroine, Jin Nang/Luo Shu's life is part of a web that involves the main characters. Happiness for her tends to be temporary. But there is an HE.

The ML's story and relationship with Mu Qingge is more complex than you might have heard or read. Her death is for him and not by him, if that makes sense. It's a pretty good watch and their romance is cute and sometimes sad. FF the sister parts if it really bothers you.

Good points. The window of opportunity for Jin Nang and Magistrate Han to first get to know each other is rather short as he had just arrived in Linfen. And he should have learned about the jumping women when he took up his new duties. If Jin Nang had contacted him earlier, how did she impress him enough to allow her to investigate the temple, I wonder.

The human part of the fish demon must be Madam Wu, AKA Qin's Godmother who lost her son on the Elit Armored Guards' patrol. Hence the resentment. She must blame them for his death and the fish demon used that to control her.
