one of the most satisfying endings i've seen in a long time. i won't deny that it has its problems but…
i read it as happy, for both couples, although there is tragedy involved to get there, and it's a little open on the ultimate fate of kim shin but i choose to interpret it in a happy way.

Title SPEC: Birth
can someone please tell me where should i start watching this series? I mean is this the firs SPEC I should watch?…
SPEC 2 can be viewed without having seen the original SPEC as it's essentially a standalone work. The other SPECs (the movie, Sho, Close, Zero) are sequels/side stories that should be viewed after you watch the drama.

Can someone explain why the official translation is The Time We Were *NOT* in Love (as opposed to The Time I Loved…
i hadn't considered that possibility! personally i was reading it as denial of their feelings/love for each other, but that's a plausible explanation too - although hopefully they won't keep the main relationship unrequited all the way to the end.

well, even in korea writers do tease at homosexuality with the intent of getting cheap laughs and attracting lgbtq+ viewers, and not much else. but i hadn't thought about that possibility, and i haven't seen the drama to its conclusion so i really hope that you're right.

from the epilogue in episode 8, i think the writers are hinting that junmo and yejin are endgame - or at least, that seungchan and yejin are not. it's a pretty symbolic scene, emphasized by all the lingering shots of yejin watching the two of them go head to head on the field.

junmo blocks seungchan's shot. junmo wins.

yeah... i understand that a lot of people don't take stereotypes like that seriously - it's even viewed as positive, sometimes, in the way that stereotypes like "asian people are good at math" or "black people are good at sports" are, but it's definitely harmful to reduce an entire race with so many different people into one faceless, monolithic entity. the big dick joke is especially tired and gross because it reduces people to just their genitals, which is super objectifying and unnecessary. and on top of that it's just not a very funny joke. :/

in the first episode, Choi Yeo Jin's character is shown staring longingly at a picture of her ex, a black man oh-so-cleverly named "Johnson", with the implication being that he has a large penis.

honestly producer breathes life into me every friday-saturday. gong hyo jin, cha tae hyun, and kim soo hyun (!!!) are killing it in their roles and iu is a precious baby ;-; but the show's definitely more enjoyable if you've got a broader knowledge of k-ent (and not just k-dramas or popular variety like running man). and i adore slice-of-life but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

please don't watch this drama.its portrayal and treatment of homosexual characters is appalling. the character…
i actually wonder if the writer meant to portray a transgender woman, because while i understand that cis men can present more femininely, natasha uses all of the language a woman would use, right down to calling his boyfriend "oppa". i'm sure there are gay men who are like this in real life but it feels like the writer understands gay men to be just like women, since hey, they like guys.

please don't watch this drama.its portrayal and treatment of homosexual characters is appalling. the character in question -- "natasha" -- is one giant stereotype who only seems to be in the story to create drama conflict and be the target of jokes and horrified gasps. because those gay people are funny, right guys, hee hee. he's treated like a servant, made fun of for his mannerisms, and treated coldly by his boyfriend -- who eventually leaves him for the pretty, angsty, lonely girl because hey. fuck you, and obviously he wasn't gay... he just hadn't met the right girl.

here's a gem: when rora and her mother find out that the boyfriend had been dating a man, they are shocked beyond belief. super angry. they say, "what is wrong with that family? the sister dates a married man and the brother dates a man." because homosexuality is totally as shitty as adultery. good job, korea.

anyway hardly any of the characters are likable in the first place. it started out cute and it has its good points but it's really not good enough.
