Oppa is a Korean word that literally translates to “older brother of a female person” and is used strictly by females only to refer to her older brother, very close older male friend, romantic male interest and/or boyfriend if they are older. Oppa is NOT used by men to refer to their older brothers or boyfriends. That word would be "Hyung".

Well, I don't know if I agree with that. I mean I've seen a lot of crime genre dramas and movies over the years and I don't recall any that did not have at least one female in the main cast.
