Honestly, 7.9 is not bad. Also, there are dramas 8.5 that are not that great fo many people.

So there is a conflict with marrying a Jin. Park Jin seems to think that Jin Cho Yeon is the only surviving Jin daughter and hence the heir apparent to the Jin dynasty. Jin family is matriarchal in practice so Park Dang-gu would need to abdicate/ relinquish his throne to Songrim and become the live-in son-in-law at the Jin family.

Park Dang-gu is Park Jin's nephew and his successor to lead Songrim because Park Jin does not have any biological children. So if you think of it as the "line of succession" then Dang-gu is the first in line. Again my guess is that Park Dang-gu's parents are not important to the storyline and hence to keep the noise out, the creators probably chose not to mention them.

These two did not come out of thin air. But their parents are not getting mentioned because it's just noise and not important to the storyline. Same with Jin family. Aunts, sisters, grandparents, cousins are probably not important to the storyline and advancing it.
I keep asking the same question expecting a different answer - textbook definition of insanity, right? Lol. But is this really Wuxia? I so badly want it to be, but is it?
