On a side note, I wonder if this ancient Chinese tradition of two first names - The Ming and the Zi are still followed? Perhaps if we have any Chinese folks on here or anyone who has roots from China can shed some light.

I had to because this whole multiple names was really throwing me for a loop big time and I was getting to a point where I was growing increasingly frustrated and unable to follow the story. So I had to pause and really figure out this multiple names business as I was going nowhere.

I struggled with that too in terms of why do people have multiple names. I think Wang Yibo's character in the Untamed literally was being referred to five different ways and multiple different names - Lan Zhan, Lan Wangji, Hanguang Jun, Lan Er Gongzi, Lan Er Gege. And this was not my first C-drama. I had watched countless C-dramas before The Untamed but couldn't recall a time where there was a drama where characters had multiple names. But then I saw a YouTube video from a reviewer who explained it all. Hanguang Jun is a title given to Lan Wangji by the world of Jianghu in recognition of his swordsmanship and of his righteous deeds. Lan Er Gongzi or Lan Er Gege meant Second Master Lan or Second brother Lan and was what Wei Wuxian sometimes referred to Lan Wangji as he was the second/younger of the two brothers - twin jades of Lan. As far as the other two first names - Zhan and Wangji is the ancient Chinese tradition of being given two first names - the Ming and the Zi. The "Ming" is the name given to you soon after your birth and this is what you are known as until you enter adulthood at which point you would be given a "Zi" which is what you're generally known to by other people and ONLY your parents and the people that are close to you get to call you by your "Ming". Lan Zhan is the Ming name and Lan Wangji is the Zi name.
