The show follows the novelish. FYI there are 8 books in total. If you were to break down the arcs, it would roughly be Intro/Qingyun, Blood Cave, Demon Foxes, Bull Monster gathering, Evil sect attack on Qingyun, Time skip/Marshes, Southern Miao Boarder, Demon Beast invasion, Tianyin, Confronting Demon Beast, Lost/Betrayal, Final arc. My memory is not the greatest as its been years since I finished the novel so i apologize in advance. -XF growth development was slow because during the day he developed qingyun and at night tianyin skill and was more or less on his own for the most part during his training after linger left the training. The show made it where he was struggling to integrate the skills into one because of different cultivation philosophy but the book that didnt matter as he can switch between them. -Never had the encounter with the blood clan until time skip arc so his first time leaving qingyun was after the tournament and also meeting biyao after tournament. -The order and how the fights during the tournament was different. XF and XQ was an actual epic fight and not some lame evil mind crap lol. Qi hao won the tournament and was granted a mirror weapon. JY lost to Qihao in the last 8. -Leaving the mountain was XF, XQ, Shu Shu, and qi hao. -After the blood cave arc, it was XF with the demon foxes until the gathering to fight the legendary ox monster. XF never went to another city to fight another evil sect group. I believe while with them when they were in a cave trying to run away from a monster that he found 2nd tianshu. The foxes had the fire mirror and hid it on XF before they sacrificed themselves to save XF. XF would have the mirror with him until the end with no one knowing that he had it. The fire mirror is important as it secretly helped ease his blood lust and was used later when confronting the demon beast as it had a history with the demon beast. -Yicai had a small role and was never the next inheritor of the demon beast or god. -XF did not confront Pu zhi situation until later in the story. When he learned about the massacre, he finally lost control of the blood orbs blood lust and was the opportunity for ghost clan to take him. This is why Qingyun leader tried to kill XF because he was an actual threat now. -Marsh arc was fairly close to novel. -The show cut a lot of stuff out when XF travel to the southern miao tribes. Then they tried to cram a lame version of the demon god revival. (Demon god is who the evil sect worship while Demon Beast is powerful being that was sealed near the southern miao tribes) -Like a previous commentator posted, the book is mainly focused on XF and everyone else is an extra. XQ i would say did have a decent amount of novel time so if you were a reader you would assume that he would eventually be with her. BY was only in the book up until 2nd or 3rd book and after that she didnt have a lot of novel time. The show was trying really hard to focus on the other characters to give them a background story. XF in the novel was better and didnt have a lot of dilemmas as the show XF. There is 1 chapter during the demon beast arc that talked about the origin of the tianshu which was 10 books. XF found 5 by the end of the story.

I've honestly given up hope on this drama. If anyone is interested in reading the novel, Xiakeluojiao has done an awesome job at translating book 3-8. Chapter 85 is the start of the 10 year time skip. I recommend beginning at chapter 75 where ZXF trial starts. The events that lead to Zhu Xian being used on ZXF was better in the novel. Everything in S1 was covered more or less in book 1-2. An important plot that was changed in the drama was that ZXF met his Buddhist master's spirit before the trial, but this encounter actually happens later. S2 is garbage! Forget that you ever saw it lmao.
I envy everyone who has already seen it. I gotta wait for the eng sub lol. I'm hoping this movie will be worth the wait. As long as they don't butcher the story as the drama did. Because they ruined the drama, I ended up reading the novel. For whoever is curious about the novel, Xiakeluojiao blogspot did a great job at translating Book 3-8. You could find book 1-2 on the other novel websites. If ya'll haven't read the novel yet, I highly suggest you do. I enjoy how in the novel the story revolves around the weapons that they main character uses and how they help build his character and the plot. Zhuxian/Jade dynasty is easily a trilogy if they base it off similar to the source material and glad part 2 is in the talks right now.
