8 is too low a rating for this series! Beautifully written, acted and executed, it hit all of the right notes!…
I only take away one point because I feel that, in Kawi’s shoes, my biggest regret would have been around not getting my dad to his treatment and not having more time with him. The minute I travelled back, I’d have abandoned everything to have more time with him and get him the treatment he needs.
Plus, I felt Kawi recovered from dad’s passing too quickly, although I guess it was his second time going through it, and he seemed to have really suffered in his first, original life. So maybe I can let that go.
You don't like ANY character?? I think this show has alot of different types of characters, so it doesn't make…
Hmm I had no issues with Claire falling in love with Jamie - not sure how Outlander relates though?
Agree everyone has their own perspective . I simply added mine. Why I don’t like any character, is in the comment hidden under the spoiler tag. It has no correlation to Outlander.
Thank you for calling this out! And taking the time to explain it- it was infuriating to watch! Finally I want…
Haha yes! This is why I by and large still like the sisters. I dunno about the body , I think yes? This doesn’t seem to be that type of show but who knows
I think some people are getting too defensive of valid criticism. I LOVE historical chinese novels to the point…

Finally I want to add that I by and large like the sisters, but they sat back and let their mom emotionally abuse their adopted sister. I get that she was involved in mom’s son’s death (accidental death) and mom still raised her and saved her dowry, but come on - is it any surprise the poor girl tried to hang herself? A few nice clothes and shoes on the side aren’t going to make me condone this.
Then just drop with no rating. Why spoil the pleasure of those whose cup of tea it is ?
Sorry Frost, I believe a good discussion page worth checking out should be a true discussion - what’s good, what’s not, how it made us feel. A civilized discussion of all points of view. We inherently disagree on the purpose of this MDL page, nothing to be done.
Don’t worry I didn’t rate it based on 4 eps - thank you for reminding me, might do that.
I did call out that the show is interesting and well done.

With male characters, I probably don’t need to justify why I don’t. Most are clearly misogynists. Even Chai, from the moment he appears on screen and tells FuHui to just bear with her husband’s infidelities, is unsympathetic.
I’d definitely say I by and large like the sisters, but they allow their mom to emotionally abuse the adopted sister. So what if mom is separately keeping a dowry for her, look at her clothes, look at the way mom talks about her. No wonder she tried to hang herself.
Like I said, I understand I’m judging them from a modern, western cultural lens haha - but I can’t bring myself to like them. I do think the show is well written and executed in the opening episodes (only 1-4 have aired so far), just isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea with the characters who (in some ways) truly act like they’re from another era.
Rare is the show where I can say I don’t like a single character. Fully understand that they’re living in a different culture and a different time, but this was hard to stomach. As interesting and well done as episodes 1-4 were, this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. (It certainly isn’t mine.)
One of those shows where in real life, this relationship would be so wrong, but on TV, it’s beautiful. I truly feel like I watched a rose tinted train wreck - and loved it. Wang An Yu’s Duan Yu Cheng is the single most attractive male lead I’ve ever seen, despite his young age. 🙈 Who could resist a guy like that. I can see why Luo Na fell in love.
