May not be everyone's cup of tea, but that's what makes it more special.
I binge watched all the episodes and I could say that this is one of the best Korean series I have ever watched. This series is a social commentary about the hierarchy in the society regardless if we enter a society with an empty slate. It poses a poignant reflection about how people from the top of the food chain care less about people who lives in much lower and poorer state from them. And although some people from higher ranks feel a bit of empathy towards the weaker, there will always be a time where they will turn a blind eye on the situation regardless of how immoral and destructive things are becoming.
Additionally, the series is also a satiricial comedy that emphasizes the role of reality show and how people see human's sufferings as entertainment. In such reality shows like Big Brother, this series plays an important role in highlighting how the media consumers mostly contribute to the hardships of people involved just for the sake of good tv. Consumers, mostly rich people who have nothing better to do with their lives most likely pay with generous amount in order to keep the program going.
The series is like a longer version of platform, and alike "Parasite". It displays various socioeconomic conditions that push people to resort to violence and greed for the sake of monetary gain.
Honestly, the series may look slow but it keeps me on the edge of the seat. You will find yourself often rooting for the people from lower floors mainly because you can feel and see their struggles.
Overall, this is a good series. I just hope this series got the Squid Game recognition but I also kinda understand that this may be not someone else's cup of tea.
