hwihyun is indeed annoying now, but can't say he was a shitty boyfriend, because he said it many times that the time he was dating hyewon his and his family's financial situation wasn't good and he was busy mostly with his part time jobs, and he couldn't make much time for hyewon so he decided to break up because he thought it was not right for him to dare her when he is not doing well in any ways, also he was into hyewon until the last few episodes, it's their bad timing always and also lack of communication which leads to big misunderstandings between them, which is mostly hwihyun's fault of course.
