I think it's unfair to say that BL is "a genre that is regressive and only interested in net gain". BL has existed a long time ago, rooted in Japanese yaoi and only became very popular lately. What's wrong with wanting to make profit of something that is popular? All genre productions would want to make profit, not only BLs.

I also read somewhere that ZZH has no endorsement at that time as well. As someone who has been in the industry for more than 10 years and been in lead cast for many dramas, having no endorsement and no solo cover is kinda sad...

ZZH and GJ are both professional actors, especially ZZH who has been in the industry for 10 years so they always treat their drama professionally. Unlike many of those "real BL" actors who just rely on their good looks while their acting is substandard. I'm close to giving up watching real BL drama due to bad acting and crappy lazy story. I find Chinese danmei drama is a lot more satisfying because at least they use proper actors and the story is decent.

We all loved that scene! It is one of the most important moments for Wenzhou, where they both confirm and acknowledge each other's importance in their life. And the lines, even though it sounds simple but it's really touching. What's more joyful than having someone you can call?

Don't worry, I didn't feel that you sh*t-talked about WOH, I'm just genuinely curious as to why you feel that, since I watched both of them and never feel any similarity in terms of story/plot. But yeah, I get it if other people may feel that there are similarities and it's always good to hear others' opinion. We can always enjoy and like both :)

I'm glad that you like it, but honestly I don't see any similarity to TU in terms of the story or plot. Maybe some scenes look similar but most of the wuxia/xianxia dramas will have similar scenes/tropes. Would you mind elaborating which aspect you see as similar, I'm just curious.

Thanks for the insight. I think what made WOH stands out is that not only it is a great drama and wuxia, but also the positive influence that it spreads. We can see that all the actors and crew love their works, support each other and even set a good example to the whole fandom, which is far more valuable than the material benefits.
I hope that WOH will set an example to the whole C-ent industry, a quality work will be more appreciated and memorable than just traffic drama. It's just atrocious thinking that an "actress" like ZS can earn that much fortune for just starring in one drama...

I've never seen any fandom where so many people blatantly and openly ship CP like LLD, from co-actors, straight men, famous singer to Hugo Award winning novelist. Must be one of the best C-fandoms ever existed.

Douluo Continent is no surprise due to XZ, but how come My Heroic Husband can make it to no 2?? But it doesn't really matter, WOH has exceeded all the expectations left and right and sure Youku has made a lot of profit from WOH alone.
