I love how this drama shows role reversals on our ideals about male and female leads. It’s honestly refreshing! We finally get to see the troubles and worries of a king, his true emotions and not just him being the savior and hero. We see him torn, afraid, and anxious. He’s human and not a superhero, knight in shining armor, always put together and gorgeous royalty. It shows the real human emotions of a man in power in closed doors. Also, let’s not completely hate on him based on the recent events. All the things that happened is a complete surprise to him too. Never did he expect Yoo Jung to be back in the palace. All his life he protected yoo jung in the best way he thought he could…. atleast he TRIES. he wanted to protect yoo jung even made plans for her to escape…… and yes, (although it sucks because she’s collateral damage in all of this) he also already vowed to marry yeonhee a person he did not love to in order to gain power it just sucks for him because gye won figured his plan waaay to early . (This was able to establish how hard gyewon is to defeat that even waiting for years lee tae still lost to him in this plotline) hopefully we get to see him win and be wiser over the episodes to come,
We finally have a female lead who makes her own choices, sticks to her principles, brave, and not afraid to challenge men. Someone who doesn’t need to rely on other people/man to defeat her demons. Yoo Jung’s whole character is what we usually find in our idea on what a man should be but i’m glad that the writer switched how he wrote the male and female leads. I’m mindblown.
We finally have a villain who’s intentions are more like a hero (not wanting a tyrant to rule joseon, always looking out for the country) but then…overtime he hasn’t realized he’s becoming the very person he hates. He’s is the tyrant in this story.
I'm enjoying the drama, I like that even the main characters are gray but something that causes me frustration…
Isn’t it refreshing to see the worries and weaknesses of a king especially with the traumas he had to deal with in the past. I like that this drama shows it. It’s the exact character description. He has to appear weak as well so the ministers won’t think that he would rebel against them and have him dethroned like what they did to his uncle. And remember, He’s secretly trying to gain full authority and he can’t achieve that if he’ll act all high and mighty.
Haven't felt the motivation to continue this since its first week. Castle politics has never intrigued me, but…
It’s hard to force it on someone. If you’re going to try it don’t expect it to be full of romance nd fluff. And if ever Try sitting through the first 4 episodes
