Ok that weird little music that they constantly use is so grating. It almost sounds like the beginning of a soundtrack you typically use for comedy scenes so it's super out of place when they put it in front of the serious moments.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me why in ep 37 the two of them were able to make it out of the pagoda with the "hidden entrance" when the og sorcerer basically starved to death....um could he also have not used that exit?
Ngl, I did enjoy this drama. The plot is actually good and the director did a good job of pacing and telling their story. Zhou Ye is an actress that has been a side character in many highly-rated dramas. Her skills are clearly displayed in this drama, and her emotional scenes are excellently played. In contrast, Neo Hu's inability to act is especially highlighted. He only has one expression for all high-emotion scenes, whether sad, angry, hurt, or otherwise. Unfortunately, his acting was my biggest critic of this show. Fortunately, the rest of the drama team and Zhou Ye's acting allowed me to watch it to the end.

Ugh this is like the umpteenth drama where the second ML gets "forced" to marry by the emperor. My problem with this scenario is that it makes it hard to disassociate from that initial couple pairing because there really wasn't a character flaw or something to learn from. Like, if our main leads went through the same problem (if you don't marry this person your whole family will be killed) they uh, probably would have made the same decision. So it's like, the second ML and the FL could never be together because......the plot says so?
Very cute! Not a super complicated drama, even the "plot twists" and mysteries weren't overly crazy. I didn't love the ending because I felt like they cut out some characters somewhat randomly. It didn't feel rushed or anything, just kind of like the writers said "ehhh this'll do" and called it a day.
I'm like half way through and lmao the PLOT HOLES. People be doing things that don't make any sense.
Like why did the guy throw the POISONOUS EYE DROPS into the brushes in the middle of town instead of in a TRASHCAN where it could at least be taken away and destroyed ???!!!!!
I actually really liked part one! There were a lot of cliches but it was still fun to watch. For me, the second season really fell apart. People kept dying, almost dying, coming back to life, dying again, etc. Like I actually lost count of how many times the two main characters " died. " The worst part was it wasn't even just the main characters. The side characters fell into the same situations as well.
The writers really leaned into the misunderstanding trope in this part 2, to the point where it was like oh come on, just COMMUNICATE with your partner. They kept throwing in angsty situations that were basically just tearjerkers without really incorporating them or making them feel relevant. The show became really anticlimactic because there were too many emotional moments. I didn't even know you could have too many but they definitely overplayed the "don't tell him because I don't want him to be sad but I MUST sacrifice myself to save everybody" followed by the "she gave everything to save us and I didn't even know until she's gone I totally thought she betrayed me."
Welp, the actors and soundtrack editors definitely saved the show but yeah, not the best I've seen. Oh and the costumes too.
