If you were making a Jewish movie and the lead was someone who “respected” Nazis, you wouldn't call the backlash…
It’s not about forgetting or ignoring history..it’s about reading the situation accurately.
in this case there’s no evidence that Fukushi Sota ever defended war crimes or glorified imperialism...
Respecting victims or a previous generation isn’t the same as endorsing their government’s actions.
The backlash seems to come from assuming intent rather than looking at facts.
Comparing it to Nazis is a huge leap.those are clear documented atrocities. Here we’re talking about a ten year old remark being misinterpreted.
Criticism of history is valid but punishing someone without proof isn’t. That’s the difference.

Historical red lines matter but they’re being turned into tools of exclusion...
None of the quotes they point to show that Fukushi Sota denied Japan’s war crimes or defended imperialism...
Saying respect for a previous generation isn’t the same as the political defense they’re trying to make it out to be.
If any actor can be called 'right-wing' over a vague remark from a TV program ten years ago, that’s not historical sensitivity that’s judging people based on feelings...
With this kind of logic there’s no clear line and anyone could be the next target
A boycott only makes sense when there’s real proof, not just guessing people’s intentions
History can be criticized but people shouldn’t be blamed without evidence
