For my first kdrama I wasn't even aware of this terminology. It was on the local TV in my home country and I cried my eyes out on every episode. Tbh it was almost the most tragic drama I have ever seen. It was Stairway to Heaven, for those of you who have watched it know what I'm talking about. This drama on every episode made me cry, ON EVERY SINGLE ONE. It had a beautiful story, and I was exposed to a completely different kind of tv show. By that year what was common to watch was telenovelas (I'm a latina), I was used to watching romance but I dare to say, more on a superficial level when comparing to Stairway to Heaven .
Later on when I became "aware" of kdramas (which I used to call dorama), I watched Boys Over Flowers and it was because of a fan fiction story that I was reading on a blog, this included my fav boyband at that time, which was the Jonas Brothers. The writer adapted the drama Boys Over Flowers to this fan fiction and when I realized this, I went immediately to google and searched for this drama and BOY OH BOY I got hooked into the kdrama vibe.
NEVER regretted this series of fortunate events, pure luck or maybe it was meant to be. Now I'm starting to learn korean because of all this, I am in love with korean culture, the food, the norms, everything. And hopefully I'll travel to the country and experiment this culture myself. <3
