EXCITING PLOT & SATISFYING ENDING

I blindly picked this drama out of boredom. I had little expectations but to my amazement I found it worth watching.

The story was well written in my opinion. I love the comedic bits too. I was laughing, screaming into my pillow, and stupidly kicking / punching the air all throughout this drama.

There are the thrilling parts as well, where I was excited but at the same time worried about what's to come next. It was quite interesting, and the little bits of mysteries as well.

It does have pretty sad scenes, I got emotional at some parts because it was either too sweet or it was too sad. There was no intense or irrelevant plots, everything stayed on one track from start to end.

The romance is one that will have you laughing out loud and get all excited. Its not very lovey dovey or cheesy, it was cute.

There was also comradery and friendship displayed in this drama, one that would probably get you to shed a few tears because of how good it is. There was no major betrayals (with the good characters, the villains were villains from start to end lol) or love triangles.

The ending is what worried me the most but I was so satisfied with it. It has a very happy ending, I was able to see everyone living happily after all the chaos which in my opinion is very comforting especially after all theyve been through.

This review is MY PERSONAL OPINION.

Toxic Romance

Okay I was 14 when I watched this drama and I absolutely fell in love with it because of Zhao Lusi being my favorite actress and also because Ding Yuxi was ( and still is ) so so so very handsome. The comedy in this drama was actually good enough for me, I personally feel like it was not overdone. Lusi’s comedic scenes are so funny because she was portraying a modern girl trying to change the natural course of events. rrw

Now, I love the actors and actresses in this drama but I have to say, I may have rewatched this numerous times before but now as an adult I might not do so anymore. This is due to the romance portrayed in this drama. I loved the sweet moments, but as an adult I’m seeing how toxic the bad moments were because Qianqian keeps leading Han Shuo on and then turns around and pushes him away. There is no valid reason, no one can tell me “oh but it’s because she wanted to return back home and she thought her way back was for things to go according to the scrip(“ . She may have created characters, but they so happen to feel emotions too. So for her to be tossing Han Shuo’s heart around like that pissed me off as an adult because it’s not cute, it’s rather toxic and unhealthy. If someone loved me today and then pushed me away tmrw, I would completely lose it. But it’s drama anyway, I just hope you girls don’t fantasize about this kind of love because it’s absolutely toxic. Qianqians character was a bit immature but towards the end, I actually began to like her. But I loved her comedic scenes though ! That’s something I would watch over and over , just NOT the whole drama again lol .

THRILLING PLOT, BITTERSWEET VICTORIES, STRONG LOYALTY AND FRIENDSHIP

From episode 01 to 40, I never got bored. I dont usually like dramas with politics, but this is a drama with politics that I watched without skipping a minute.

The personalities of the main lead and his comrades, family and acquaintances made me love this drama even more. I could not help but love the loyalty and brotherhood between ML and his fighter friends, the sweet and homey love-hate relationship with his family, and his very optimistic encounters with the other side characters.

The plot is amazingly intense. Every new surfacing plot is linked to the previous so I did not feel bored or uninterested bcs every single one of the cases that were being solved was one step closer to uncovering mysteries surrounding the MAIN plot.

The romance was not the main focus, but its there. I did not have any high expectations for the romance bcs I was too invested in the plot at hand.

Comedic moments did not end when the story got to its serious point. Comedic scenes continued, even after a series of sadness or heartbreak.

The cast really played their roles well. Each one played their character so well that you can just feel the emotions and expressions in the moment. You can even feel the excitement and thrills in the very intense moments.

The ending is what left me shaken. Theres still other mysteries that have not been solved yet it ended with a cliffhanger. Im assuming that a season 2 is very likely, but I was upset for a moment bcs I enjoyed every moment of this drama only to be left hanging. BUT I LOVED IT!

LOVED IT

I personally was drawn to this drama because of Zhao Lusi. First episode gave me a strong sense of anticipation and immediately got me invested in the Main Leads characters.

What I found a bit off putting was Lusi’s portrayal of A Yin. I love her, don’t get me wrong but I’m not a big fan of childlike acting ( understand that A Yin was in fact a newly hatched Water Beast, therefore it made sense why her character had to be portrayed as so ).

The friendship in this series is one that you can’t miss. Four young people with very special identities and responsibilities joining hands to bring peace and justice. A Jin, A Yin , A Jiu .. I want to know why they didn’t name Yan Shuang , A Shu or something similar lol. But that’s irrelevant, I just loved how they have nicknames for each other. The loyalty portrayed and the love between friends was one of the qualities of this drama that drew me into it more. I enjoyed watching the teamwork between all four of them.

The villains in this series did their roles quite well I would say. I did hate them all to the point where had to take a break because they stressed me out lol. But nothing makes up for a bad villains deeds more than an act of righteousness which was portrayed by one of the villains near the end. I thought that was touching, it still doesn’t erase the deeds this villain committed because I honestly hated this particular villain a lot, but it was touching to see a positive change.

The romance in this drama between the Male Leads is bittersweet. Depending on your interests when it comes to drama romance, I personally think they deserved more romance considering all that happened between them from the start to end. They faced so many hardships together, challenging both their strengths and their love. I was disappointed in the male lead for his choice of action leading to a very tragic loss, and I was satisfied to see him face the consequences of it lol. But then when the female lead returned the favor, I felt terrible for the male lead. But they still loved each other, you’ll want to cry and be mad seeing them like that lol.

The ending for me was neither happy nor sad. It just depends on how you wished the ending to be and your definition of happy endings. I do believe they should’ve been given more screen time with the last scene to kind of allow the viewers to recover from the tragedies that led up to that point lol.

Overall though, it was worth my time.

SMOOTH SAILING, VERY LIGHT AND SWEET

I have rewatched this quite a few times already. I found it to be THAT good in terms of light plots; there were no overly dramatic or crazy plots that made me want to flip chairs and pull my hair out lol.

What i loved most was the sisterhood and women empowerment. After having watched so many historical dramas that had a lot of jealousy and scheming girls, it was so refreshing and sweet to see a drama where the ladies had absolute loyalty and love towards one another. No jealousy even when sharing the same husband, okay well there was, but it did not last bcs they came to terms with their situations and became close.

The ML and FL had a bit of an inexperienced romance, like, they liked each other but they kind of didnt know how to express it in the way that the other person wants. But it didnt disappoint bcs their chemistry was beautiful. Their love grew and so did their maturity surrounding their romance.

The ladies weren't the only ones who displayed great loyalty and sisterhood, few of the brothers too showed that as well. Their brotherly bonds grew closer bcs their wives supported each other so the boys kind of got dragged into lol, and ended up working together to help each other.

Plot is not too intense compared to other dramas involving politics in its main plot. You can kind of make your own guesses so you will not often be caught off guard or by surprise as they go down the plot line.

I would say this drama is very therapeutic if what you want is an easy and smoothsailing story. If what youre looking for is something thats just gna have you laid back, laughing and admiring the livelihood and bonds between the characters then this just might do it for you.
