Aww Yeo Jingoo and Dao Ming Si, Jerry!!! ♥♥♥ I'm so happy Jingoo's growing up into such an amazing and handsome actor, can't wait to see more of him in movies and dramas!
I really liked this drama a lot until the ending happened. T_T I'm actually mostly bitter about Hyesung not being the real son rather than him leaving. Like there is no point in him not being the real son, it doesn't help the story in any way. It felt like they just wanted a shock factor but all they managed to do was confuse the viewers in the most unnecessary way possible. If they wanted a tragic ending, they could've made Hyesung left without knowing he is really the son. That would be so much more heart breaking. If they wanted to make the viewers sad, that would've had more gravity imo.
This kind of drama is really not to my taste but I really like Jingoo so I watched this. I found myself cringing most of the times, but still Jingoo's just so good. T_T Honestly though, even if this kind of series isn't my type, but I think this could've gotten better reception with good execution. If they already introduced the joseon era right at the start, even just through some teasers, people won't be so shocked about the sudden shift in the story. The story also didn't develop the characters as much as it should've. Seolhyun's way of talking bothered me especially in the beginning but I eventually got used to it.
I'm so thankful to this drama for introducing me to my favorite girl group of all time... S.H.E!!! I remember enjoying this series a lot. It's something not to be taken seriously, although they should've given a proper resolution to the ending. That was disappointing.
The drama started a little slow and a bit confusing for me, but I couldn't stop watching after 20 episodes.…
The green liquid could be made into pills that would give MCS strength for 3 months, good enough for him to lead an army, but will lead him to death afterwards. That was what he was asking Lin Chen for in the last episode, make him that pill, and allow him to serve his country one last time.
If he faked his death, knowing how detailed this drama is, I think they would show something that would give a hint to MCS faking his death, but I don't think there was any. ^^;
And wow there is gonna be NIF2?? :D
This movie just proves what a phenomenal actor Yeo Jingoo is. Despite being so much younger, he held himself well against much more experienced veteran actors. The awards he received for this movie are well deserved.
The drama started a little slow and a bit confusing for me, but I couldn't stop watching after 20 episodes. I just really felt I immediately needed to see to the end of Mei Chang Su's journey. I was expecting a better flashback of what happened in the past, but they mostly used dialogues to explain what happened which got quite boring for me at times. They began with a few tease of flashback clips, that's why I was expecting for more...I thought I was gonna see some more of that. But the cinematography and production value are amazing and the acting was good and the script being able to tie the entire story together was a really job well done.
The greatly written characters is also one of the main reasons that made me watch this drama non-stop.
I was really amazed in Mei Chang Su, he was just a character who would never let you down no matter what, if only he was healthier. I also liked how Jingyan's character developed throughout the drama as a reckless but well-meaning prince, to a person who will still fight for what he believes in but knowing when to actually fight.
I loved how the female characters were written in this story, especially Jing Fei. She seemed so powerless on the outside but her patience and knowing what to say and when to stop were so impressive. I also really liked Nihuang, who was so strong and never let her feelings get in the way in helping Mei Chang Su. So many more badass female characters in this story, even the villains.
I also liked the minor characters like Gaozhan and Prince Ji. I really cheered when Gaozhan made his subtle, little moves of showing the support he could for Mei Chang Su. Even Prince Ji who seemed like a prince who seemed like someone who was only about all the fun actually did a dangerous and heroic act of saving Prince Qi's son.
The ending felt anti-climactic to me though. I know deep down Lin Shu/MCS would eventually die (I would've been disappointed actually in the story if he didn't), and the way he went to die in battle was totally the proper way to go... but it felt rushed to me. Some parts in the story where I was hoping to get more emotional didn't get to me so much... like when Jingyan finally found out MCS = Lin Shu.
Anyways, I really enjoyed the 54-episode ride this drama is. This is actually the first Asian period drama that I actually watched in full and without fast forwards. 9/10 for me.
The movie was really disturbing but damn it was so well done. While there was a lot of disgusting scenes in this movie, the one that disturbed me the most was the ending... or should I say the part that left me the most impact? Did he really forget? He really still decided to stay with Mido in spite of it all?
So I'm currently going through Yeo Jingoo's filmography like crazy and wow... even at that age, the way he his carried himself with dignity and menacing charm and ugh.. he was just literally a kid in this drama, but his presence felt like he was truly someone much older than his age.
A really great movie, loved the acting and the storyline and it got me reading up on the actual history. The only thing that bothered me is the obviously fake prosthetic used on the cast...
I watched this movie a long time ago, way before I became a fan of Eun Jiwon. And it's funnier to watch after knowing him. This movie doesn't really take itself seriously... acting was so-so but kinda funny too. :D
