wait. GTG direction was already criticised by many when the drama was airing. it was a lil messy. Now this drama…
If you’re talking about the editing during the early episodes of GTG, I disagree with that criticism. I understand the story alright at the pace the director wanted to reveal it. They don’t have to explain everything from the beginning. I’m okay being confused when that's the intention. I don't need the god perspective that knows everything when watching a drama. So I didn’t realize people felt it was messy until I saw people talking about it.
Anyway, you might have to give me some room that I have a different standard from others.
Your rating are brutal, you have very high standard, so 9 must mean that Little Women is actually really good.…
Lol, be careful with my scores. If the leads’ chemistry works, the score might go higher than it probably should. And anything 3 or below is just my frustration level watching the show. The score leans more toward my enjoyment than analysis.
Your reviews are so fun to read. Your word choices hit right to the heart. I laughed out loud reading you describe the cougar goddess, the slutpuppy and also the way you phrase your opinions. Hope you keep writing reviews. I want to read more 😁
Totally agree with this review and especially the last part. Dilereba is pretty good when she is cast alongside…
Totally agree on the inconsistency in the ML character. Based on his background, he could be darker or more complex, which would be a lot more interesting. Instead, he turns out to be a little fox running around after the FL smiling here and there.
He also starts calling the FL by her position on his own. When that happened, it felt weird to me - like, why calling her that? He’s not her subordinate. Is he trying to show that he submits to her or what?
But then he goes back and asks for permission to call her by her name. Why change his mind again? And why ask for permission when he didn’t need to call her by her position in the first place?
Also agree that the actor suits cold, introverted roles better. Even then, he’s not always great, but at least he doesn’t come across as this shallow. Overall, it feels like his acting hasn’t developed much over the years.
The falling for the FL part is also how you described it. There’s just not enough substance for the audience to hold on to that feeling. I had the same reaction - wait, what happened? What did I miss? 😅
agree. maybe the kiss attempts scenes could be more sweet and less-forced? with different directing and approach.idk…
It’s uncomfortable for me to watch the ML in love scenes with the FL as well. Just like you said, on screen it comes across as if he’s always forcing / coercing her into kissing or engaging in sexual activities with him.
I think the actor playing the ML isn’t mature enough to fully understand complex inner emotions, then convey them through his acting.
there is a difference between having a personal opinion and just spreading hate for absolutely no reason, the…
So criticism = hate in your dictionary? What a stupid mindset. If people who don’t like a show should stay quiet, why don’t you take your own advice and scroll past reviews you don’t like?
My review clearly lays out reasons. Each point is explained. I also said I’m a fan of Dilireba. If you still think this is “hate for no reason,” then you either didn’t read it before commenting, or you’re incapable of even the most basic ability to grasp key points from a passage.
You don't seem able to handle different opinions either. Clearly, review and comment sections aren’t the place for you. So, don’t you come under my review showing low-IQ, low-EQ behavior. I don’t tolerate this kind of stupidity.
I chuckled at “ I don't think Love Beyond the Grave's production team knows what a storyboard is.” 😂
😂 Thank you for reading through my whole write-up and catching that line in the middle. Glad that you found some entertainment in it. Really appreciate you taking the time to read my review.
I didn’t know he was meant to fall in love at first sight with the FL?!? The hat scene didn’t really convey…
I just finished Pursuit of Jade and Generation to Generation. Both are great. If you’re into a more mysterious vibe, Generation to Generation does that better.
If you’re looking for something in the demon or ghost genre, Veil of Shadows just started airing. I’ve already watched its ep.1 and it’s better than ep.1 of Love Beyond the Grave.
-----------------------------------
Edited: I've watched 10 episodes of Veil of Shadows already. I'm super excited to watch this. Not boring at all. There're unexpected things to discover all the time. It doesn't drag and doesn't slow down. The composition in each frame is beautiful - real food for the eyes. I can say their first 10 episodes are better than the first 10 episodes of Pursuit of Jade - no need to say about Love Beyond the Grave anymore as it would become just trash if being compared.
I didn’t know he was meant to fall in love at first sight with the FL?!? The hat scene didn’t really convey…
Ok, got it now. Thanks for the clarification 🙂
Update on my side - I pushed through to ep.13 and my tolerance ran out. Based on what the directing and writing have shown so far, I don’t see much room for meaningful character development going forward. So I’ve decided to stop here and spend my time on better shows instead.
Once all the episodes are out, I might come back and skim through. It’ll be much faster that way.
Regarding Duan Xu, I think his character was poorly adapted. He smiles for no reason in the novel, and the production…
I didn’t know he was meant to fall in love at first sight with the FL?!? The hat scene didn’t really convey much to me. I just thought he was being casual and did that without thinking much since that seems to fit his character.
I haven’t read the novel, so I’m judging things based on what the drama shows. So, thank you for sharing all this context 🙂
If the ML is supposed to be an unsettling/abnormal character, the story from here (ep.10) could actually become really interesting! I’m curious to see how things develop.
Anyway, so far I still feel the adaptation can't translate the intentions from the novel that you mentioned. On screen, it comes out as flat and underdeveloped.
I do agree with many of your points. I feel like the actors didn’t had good direction and the parts were badly…
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my long sloppy rant, and even write a response. You've enlightened me on many points. Now I can see the pattern you mentioned in other Chinese series filmed abroad as well. I just finished watching Speed and Love and noticed similar things like fake town name and indoor scenes that were supposedly shot in China.
And the absence of any real landmarks really suggests that Finland was only used as a vague backdrop, rather than because it lacks places worth sightseeing as I first assumed.
Agreed 💯 on your comments about FL acting. Her reactions appear OTP and fake. She is the reason I could not…
I really disliked her acting in this drama, but after finishing it I kept hearing praises for her performance in Twelve Letters, so I gave it a try. Honestly, Twelve Letters does deserve the recognition. Her acting there is intense, and as the first main lead she nearly carries the whole show though the rest of the cast also did their jobs really well. Watching it made me realize she’s probably more suited to serious drama roles than to light-hearted idol series like this one.
And the ML - most cdrama actors act in a similar manner with barely any expression- I guess they follow the M&B…
Cdrama MLs really do feel like coming out of a template, which is stoic, aloof, handsome with very little emotional range. It works in some roles, but here it just highlighted the mismatch with the FL even more.
The 'depth' here maybe shallow and cliche. There’s nothing in this series that hasn’t been done before or…
That’s why I’m trying to tell you depth has nothing to do with it. Talking about depth in this drama is nonsense.
And it’s not necessary about taste either. Even people who like this genre can have a different opinion from you and they don’t have to like it. For example, My First First Love is also a slowburn, cute, comfort drama, and it got a higher score from me.
It's not your cup of tea it's really good comfort drama slow burn n cute to feel good drama everyone wants to…
The 'depth' here maybe shallow and cliche. There’s nothing in this series that hasn’t been done before or feels unpredictable. It's not that it's not my cup of tea, but I've seen plenty of dramas in this genre and know there are better versions of this same recycled storyline - ones that worked because the leads had real chemistry even when the plots were stupid. But here, the chemistry is limited, the ML is just another “quiet, acting-cool” copy-paste character, and the FL is stuck in the same “acting-cute and tagging along” routine I’ve seen a hundred times. There's nothing new or real substance or maybe 'depth' as you call it.
I never thought it was a BL drama. You should stop imagining things about things you don't know.
@RMillie You should think about it again how come 3 people make 3 couples?? Can 3 people date within themselves and make it 3 couples?? In case your math/vocabulary are not strong, 3 couples = 6 people. So can you stop imagining things already?
Anyway, you might have to give me some room that I have a different standard from others.

Good luck. Hope you use your time wisely to watch a few actually good dramas - only then will your sense of aesthetics level up 🙂
